Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.
Guardian: First 20 UK towns and cities in line for local TV service announced.
Local TV may be coming to a small screen near you soon – but only if you are in one of the 20 towns and cities unveiled by the government.
The government also revealed today that BSkyB and Virgin have committed to offering either apps or the use of the yellow button on their interactive services to fulfil the heavily debated obligation that the new local TV services receive "appropriate prominence" on electronic programme guides (EPGs) when they are launched.
The first 20 areas to receive local TV services will be: Belfast, Birmingham, Brighton and Hove, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Grimsby, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Plymouth, Preston, Southampton and Swansea.
The government said a further 24 areas have been identified for a future round of licensing of local TV services.
These are: Aberdeen, Ayr, Bangor, Barnstaple, Basingstoke, Bedford, Cambridge, Carlisle, Derry/Londonderry, Dundee, Guildford, Hereford, Inverness, Kidderminster, Limavady, Luton, Maidstone, Malvern, Mold, Salisbury, Sheffield, Stoke on Trent, Stratford upon Avon and York.

Whilst I don't think Argos TV is coming to VM, it's important to remember that shopping channels pay VM to be on the platform. This brings in revenue for other pay channels to be added

My only contention DF is with that is when exactly was the last time Virgin added a shopping channel.

Anyone remember Channel One (not the one that was previously Virgin1) on cable years ago? It had looped local news and events, weather etc.

Why do some get so offended about shopping/gaming/adult channels etc , just because there on the EPG doesn't mean people have to watch them Sky has hundreds of these kind of channels , I simply just don't watch them however I'm sure some do.

Exactly... it's not like VM think people want Gems TV over Sky Atlantic, they are seperate things.
