Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
The new padding defaults are annoying enough, but what really bugs me are the "keep this many shows" and "keep until" defaults. I got a 1 tb box for a reason!
I love Tivo, I actually really like Virgin, but they literally wasted their time on express series links.

I have to agree the default padding is leading to too many "cannot record" messages which are terribly confusing! I never seen to know what to do except do not record the suggested show!

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
So when you record a single show is it adding keep until onto the recording? That's going to be a pain in the ass.

The default for a single recording is keep until space needed, with the 1 and 4 minutes of padding.
The default for an express series link is as above, but also will keep at most 10 episodes and is set to "new and reruns".

You can either set it any way and trust Tivo to find other showings-its pretty good at that to be fair-or you can go back a couple of steps and view other showings.
This is something I wasn't having to do prior to the update so it really is irritating.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I had a case a few days ago when I received a message Tivo had to change a channel for a recording about to start. But I only had 1 tuner recording at the time so the message was just to channel a tuner which was continuously recording another channel for your 60 minute buffer backwards. The live TV wasn’t this channel so there was no real need for Tivo to present this message as it didn’t affect the channel being recorded or the live channel we were watching. It was only for 1 additional recording by the way so wasn’t a case of 2 recordings about to start so all 3 channels required for the padding overlap.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
if anyone wants a free TiVo box, come past my house in 5 minutes, its the one that will be flying out of the effing window into the street.
why on earth does the guide flick around, lag, get completely confused and then switch back to TV ALL THE TIME? it wasnt doing this until the recent update. Is anyone else having this problem?
Do VM actually test their sw before releasing it? useless.

To answer your question, I get none of the guide problems you have so something is wrong with your box or I suspect your signal levels. Would ring VM (try and get UK to get a sensible check done) and ask for them to be checked. Its that or your neighbours will be wondering why a crowd is gathering outside your house!

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I'd say either a fault with the remote control, or IR interference in the room. Does it work correctly if you operate the box using the buttons on the front panel?
If so, try new batteries in the remote, and search the forum for the many posts on IR interference.

It should be a rule for developers that existing features should be kept. If they need to be changed to add flexibility, an option to use the old settings should be provided. Otherwise all you're doing is exchanging one set of problems for another which isn't improvement.
---
To the guy with the EPG fault, that's definitely not normal. The EPG has always been one of the most bug-free features of my TiVo, so if it's doing that maybe booking an engineer visit would be the best idea instead of hours of guesswork trying to track down the fault.
