Multi room streaming

With Tivo multi-room streaming about to kick off I have a few questions. Can anyone enlighten me.

1). Will the streaming be wi-fi box to box or some other method.
2). Will the wi-fi, if that's the method, only enable when streaming of a programme is demanded or will the wi-fi be enabled 24/7? I don't want a box throwing out wi-fi signals constantly.
3). Will two or more boxes be able to access the same programme simultaneously.

I thankyou.

Personally i think it will be via the Ethernet port and then over a hardwired network , I have never seen any wireless adapters for the VM tivo.

I don't want the 3 tivo's in my house giving out any wireless signals.

So by that do you mean the signal will bounce from the house to the box down the street and back again?

? no

I mean it will be carried on internal cat5 cabling connected between each Tivo. It will have NOTHING to do with the external connection or cabs. I would assume you will need a internal cat5 to cat5 network or cable

Why don't you wait and see what will happen. I am not involved in any Tivo testing and i am using a bit of what if on this. Don't take my post as anything official on this.

Re: Multi room streaming

While I am not in any position to say anything official (being nothing to do with VM and not even having a Tivo), it's worth noting that the multiroom functionality in the US requires that you either use Ethernet, or buy a USB WiFi Adaptor from Tivo..

So all in all its going to cost us something to have multiroom functionality.

I would think so. I don't see VM being responsible for your internal networking requirements.

That is dependent on what you have already and how big your house is. As i say i am not posting this in a official capacity i am working out what i think it will need. I already have a complete 1 gig network in my house with a cat5 socket in every room. So for me its the cost of 3 x 1 meter cat5 to cat5 patch cords, Tops £15.00 if i go for quality cabling

Re: Multi room streaming

Not sure how much VM will charge for Multiroom, but probably the cheapest way to connect the Tivo would be to run an Ethernet cable from it to your router. This shouldn't cost more than a few pounds.

Agreed

The what if would have to also include cost for the service if they wanted to charge for it ?

Re: Multi room streaming

One of the reasons I wanted to start this discussion is because alot of people will think just getting another Tivo will be all there is to it when streaming programmes and that is clearly not the case.
