U.S. Troops to Leave Iraq by Year’s End, Obama Says

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/22/wo...q.html?_r=1&hp

Quote:
President Obama said Friday that the last American soldier would leave Iraq by the end of the year, bringing to an end a nearly nine-year military engagement that cost the lives of 4,400 troops and more than $1 trillion, divided the American public, and came to define America’s role in the world.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15410154

Quote:
Iraqi leaders had wanted 5,000 US troops to remain in a training capacity. But those trainers would not have received immunity from prosecution under Iraqi law.
The Pentagon refused to accept that condition, with Defence Secretary Leon Panetta insisting that "we protect and provide the appropriate immunity for our soldiers".
The decision to pull out all US troops suggests no deal could be reached, despite Iraq's desire for continued access to US military expertise, correspondents say.
Well that would appear to be that.

On one of the news channels there was a picture of an american soldier with Syria your next written on his back. Plus I think Iran could be targeted after the recent assassination plot.

Good one of the biggest mistakes of Nude Labour was to go into iraq on the backs of the americans ,of course in my mind the invasion was illegal but hey might is right once again.

The americans will only come if the chavs and pikies have vast oil reserves.

I hear they're still upset with Scotchland for letting the Lockerbie bomber go free...

Those oil drums needed liberating so they could enjoy the same freedoms we do and Iraq's fine now, we wouldn't be leaving if it wasn't...
