TiVo Thinking of getting TiVo

We are considering getting a tivo box to replace our V+ box.
Am i right or wrong in thinking that tivo can only record one program whils watching another whereas V+ can record two programs whilst watching another.

Tivo can record two whilst watching another, or record three if you are watching a recording.

Thanks for that, i had sussed that out shortly after my posting so got the info i needed.

I just need to look at the cost of upgrading from V+ to the 1tb Tivo box.

Â£99 install/activation fee Â£3 per month added to your current charges for Tivo service (tv guide and features etc, tv guide goes about 2 weeks into the future for most channels)

The extra Â£3 per month on the bill is acceptable but the Â£99 activation fee is not so i will give Tivo a miss.

How about the 500GB one for Â£49 "activation fee" then Â£3 a month extra. I went for the 500GB one and TiVo is a vast step up from the V+.

It just depends on how much content you plan on recording as the 500GB stores around 50 hours of HD content & 250 hours of SD which is 2.5 times larger than your V+. Obviously the 1TB box is double that if you need more.

The quality of menus, options, apps , etc is far superior than V+. I was also sceptical about the Suggestions but after having it for about 6 weeks now, it's turned up a couple of little gems of programmes I had never seen before so even that works well providing you use the thumbs up/down to rate your favorites.

All in all I would definitely recommend TiVo if it's right for you in terms of what it does and the cost.

I couldn't agree more. I took the plunge with a TiVo 500GB after also using a Samsung V+ box and love all the new features including YouTube App.

Agree fully with this post.

The TiVo box is far superior to V+, the 1Tb version is really difficult to fill up for me.

It's considerably more quiet than my V+ too.

I'd been thinking about getting a TIVO for a while ... ordered a TIVO 500GB a couple of days ago, when I eventually got the mrs to agree, I had a choice between paying VM to move my existing second box, or taking TIVO for Â£49 activation, with my current V+ box moved for free (and cancelling my existing second box [VHD] so I am actually Â£3.50 a month better off after the TIVO fee), getting a TIVO and keeping the V+ box was a no brainer - I've seen the TIVO in a VM store so just can't wait to get it installed now (got to wait until October for an install date)!

If you currently ahve any additional boxes then assuming they can offer you a similar deal you may be able to save some money long term which may help towards the 49/99 activation fee?

So are you saying that before you ordered the tivo you were paying xxxx per month and now you have the tivo box you are paying Â£3.50 a month less than you were originally paying??

I just called CS and was told i would be paying Â£3.00 a month more.

We also have a STD STB in another room and would transfer our V+ box to there in it's place.

Yes - at the moment I am paying Â£6.50/month for the second box - now I have cancelled that box saving Â£6.50/month, but aded TIVO @ Â£3/month, keeping/relocating the V+ for free - overall a Â£3.50/month saving.

Originally I planned on keeping both and having an extra box (which would mean that my package would have increased by Â£3) but in the end decided that I don't really have a need for 3 boxes so cancelled the existing 2nd box. You could try asking CS if you can relocate the V+ and keep it for free (which is the deal I was offered without any complaiing or asking for special deals) and then ask to cancel your existing STD STB seperately.

I'm someone who previously didn't watch that much TV, but decided to upgrade to the TiVo service simply because it did look well, quite damn awesome.

Now that I have the TiVo box, other than the poor remote control reception (fixed using IR repeaters, although supposedly this isn't a normal issue) I must say I'm watching TV a lot more, and I find the service to in fact be excellent. I'm now honestly considering getting a second TiVo box installed.

Yes l have 2 tivo's and the baby tivo is quite adequate for having as a second box and yes once people have had a tivo they do not to go back to the older boxes.
