This current thread is still perfectly suitable. No need for a new one yet.

It is separate from the broadcast connectivity that we have where effectively we are providing 300 standard definition channels, 30 HD channels at the moment, but with a path to grow to 80 HD channels over the next two years, or three years.

Nothing says 17 a year though? They could launch 5 this year and the rest next year?

The hold up is maybe something to do with this.

tbf, you are probably haggling over a couple of quid for a one-off purchase, not a multi-million pound deal over a number of years.....

So what happens after 30 seconds when the price is still far too high for you and the other party will not budge?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.
An insider that I knew back in ntl: days told me that most of the negotiations surrounded which pack they were in and if they were, who else would be in that pack. Today with the M, L & XL it would hopefully be easier, but contract negotiations are rarely quick.
Plus this cost Virgin money. Every non shopping channel they pay for. They then have to ensure that they can get their money back from advertising and subscriptions. This is unlike Sky where the channel pays them to use their platform.
This is why Sky gets the channels at launch.

Channels do not pay sky, except for a EPG fee, to be in their pack selection. They get a cut from subscription prices and have to pay rental fees to Astra.
