Sky Atlantic
I knowe this is a current 'exclusive to Sky' channel, but does anyone know if there is any possibility of it coming to VM at all in the future?

Re: Sky Atlantic
As soon as Sky judges that the additional viewers the channel gets from Virgin Media are worth more than the ability to claim exclusivity in marketing, they will make it available to VM at an affordable price.
That could be quite some time; for all the hype, Sky Atlantic draws rather small audiences ... since launch it has barely managed to maintain around 700,000 for Blue Bloods; Game of Thrones fared better, settling around about 1.1 million per week. But the rest of the top 10 are all sub-500,000 viewer shows. So if they're not drawing in loads of punters, my guess is that Sky is placing a great deal of value on being able to claim exclusivity.
That seems fair enough to me - Sky has always tended to appeal to those that rate quantity more highly than quality.

I personally find Sky provide me with some decent entertainment , shows such as Hawaii five O , Mad Dogs , Boardwalk Empire , House , Greys Anatomy , NCIS LA , The Pacific and many more however that's purely my tastes and I agree like most channels they also show some crap.

Re: Sky Atlantic
I'm not sure that quite so much of it is crap actually ... I think there's some great stuff on there, but it suffers from lack of visibility. If the BBC were to pick up one or two of these shows, for example, I would hazard a guess that with the right promotion and decent scheduling they could pick up maybe 4 million or more (a show like Game of Thrones would have to get at least 3 million to be doing as well on a universally-available channel as it does on Sky).
This is why Sky is ready to sacrifice the potential reach of another 4 million VM homes in order to use the word 'exclusive' on its radio, press and billboard advertising. Even with its brand power it has to push very, very hard to get noticed and its view seems to be that having a unique product helps in that effort.

Re: Sky Atlantic
all that content will get repeated when it does go onto other platforms.
Virgin Media Digital
Virgin Media Analogue (Milton Keynes)
Smallworld Media Digtal
Wight Cable Digital
TalkTalk TV IPTV
Chorus/UPC Cable TV (Digital and Analogue) (ROI)
Casey Cablevision (ROI)
Smart Telecom (ROI) IPTV
Magnet (ROI) IPTV
SCTV (ROI) IPTV
Are all Sky's rivals and all show some sort of Sky content whether it's Sky 1,Sky News,Sky Sports or all 3.
Then there is the possibility of BT Vision and even freeview.
So Sky are missing out on a lot of viewers across the UK and Ireland.

Re: Sky Atlantic
Sky may have many attributes, but foolishness is not (imho) one of them.

If you had a chance to sell your wares to other companies to make more money then would you not take up that opportunity.

But more people will choose to go to or stay at Sky if they continue to have exclusive content that Virgin don't have.

Not when you've just spent millions on it so that it would be a selling point and exclusive feature of your overall product.
Hasn't really turned out like that but that was obviously the aim or to sell it at such a high price to others that its worth the initial investment.
