wow,,
It just gets better and better..Not only do Tivo users have poor picture quality and have to reboot the Tivo 4 times a week they now have to manually force an EPG update.

How do you decide on which profile to login with to spout your next torrent of effluence? Is "Tivo user" going to log in next to back you up?

Ah right, wonder if it's Tribune data there too?

I don't have poor picture quality, I don't have to reboot EVER, and I'm pretty sure it updates automatically...

Do shut up.
There is nothing wrong with PQ for the majority of people.
I have never had to manually reboot or force an EPG update.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Actually after giving this some thought it may only need one connection, it does take awhile to update the epg after a manual connection. Maybe I was impatient the first time.
regards
John.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I did a manual connection and now question time has appeared. What I see is that it only appears to update every 26 hours according to the network information.
Is there any way for VM to force a connection as it does seem that the V+ is better at it than the Tivo method or is this scheduled for a future update?

Is there any reason why the time that TiVo goes out to VM looking for updated EPG data couldn't be reduced right down to say every 15 minutes (or even less)?
This could pretty much give us real time updates to the TiVo guide.
I'm assuming going out to look for the data doesn't slow the box down at all so VM may as well make the most of that 10mb connection.

Bandwidth usage.
If you had every box on the network requesting the entire epg data every 15mins then it'd be a pretty major strain on the system.
That's over 100x the current load that the EPG servers have.
What would be better is if there was a major epg download every night, and then it checked more frequently for a file of changes which it could merge into the epg data.

Yes your right, the connection downloads the data and updates the EPG in the background, thus it's not instant.
