Help setting up please?

First of all I am sorry if this question is covered somewhere already, I have looked but not found the answer.

I am fairly technically challenged and last time I had a new TV paid for the installation, but this time want to have a go at saving a few quid.

Tomorrow we are taking delivery of a Panasonic TH-P50G30B, our first HD television. We want to connect it to a V+ box also we have an old panasonic DMR ES20 DVD recorder, (until we can get a Blu ray player) so can anyone help with what leads need to go where please?

Do I have to have both HDMI and scart from the V+ box ?If so where do they go to please?
How do I connect the old DVD recorder?

Also can I also connect from our TV ariel that is on the chimney, so if the cable goes down at any time we can watch the built in Freeview? If so does that just go into the TV somewhere?

I will be very grateful for any help here as I'm starting to panic a bit now.

Re: Help setting up please?

HDMI from V+ Box to the TV. This will allow you to watch HD channels / programmes.

Scart from V+ Box to DVD Recorder. This will allow you to archive content when you wish to delete off the hard drive. You will not need to use the DVD recorder to record channels since this defeats the object of V+.

You can also use the TV aerial and there will be a aerial port on the back of the TV.

Most of the connections are labelled and should be fairly easy to connect up.

Consult your TV manual to see where all the connections are if you cannot identify.

For the V+ here is the manual, see specifically page 20 for setting up HD on your V+ - click here

Scart connections look like this:

HDMI looks like this

I've just had a look and can confirm your TV manual will give you some instructions and will also show you where the ports are

Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need clarification.

Re: Help setting up please?

Thank you so much, will I be able to also watch the SD channels from virgin with just the HDMI into the TV or do I need to connect a scart lead as well?
If so where does that come from and go to please?
I feel so daunted by this.

Re: Help setting up please?

The HDMI cable will do everything. It is VERY easy, and your TV will come with instructions showing which cable goes where. Why don't you search on the Internet for the TV manual so you don't feel so daunted by it tomorrow?

Don't you mean the HDMI cable will do everything seeing as SCART only does SD?

Re: Help setting up please?

That is a fantastic TV and definitely deserves a blu-ray player and TiVo.

Regards

John.

Ah you would have to unplug the scart from the V+ and plug the scart in to the TV.
I would keep it this way since you will not be recording off the TV using the DVD recorder as this is what the V+ will be used for

Hi Marjrie
Just a courtesy reply to ask how well did you manage to get everything sorted?
Also is it the result you wanted?

If your DVD recorder has 2 scart sockets then you'd use the other one to plug into your tv for viewing.

Re: Help setting up please?

Well the TV arrived yesterday afternoon and I had the family round for dinner yesterday, so only managed to build the glass table stand.

So today is the day, I will let you know how we get on.

Fingers crossed.
