BBC 1 HD (108) not working on TiVo

Not sure if anyone has already asked the same question - had TiVo for a week - last Saturday 108 was playing up a bit kept going off but if you went to tv guide and selected 108 it worked that way. Went to watch the news on it last night and now says channel not authorised contact virgin media for information. Bit reluctant to do hard reset as don't want to loose the stuff I have recorded, but if this is the only way of getting it back, will have to watch recorded stuff then ring them. Any help to getting this channel to work again? (All other HD channels appeear to be working ok)

Have you tried a reboot? Go in to the settings menu and select Reset (Restart the TiVo Box option) . It will take about 4-5 mins to reset.

Rebooting the box won't lose your recordings. Give it a try, but I doubt it will fix this. You'll probably end up needing to call VM.

Re: BBC 1 HD (108) not working on TiVo

Rebooting does fix this. I have had to do this a couple of times now as the TiVo box keeps thinking I'm not authorised to watch BBC 1 HD.

It can be annoying, especially if there is something on 108 you really want to watch and have to wait 5 mins.

My concern is does this only happen when I actually try to watch 108. What happens if it thinks I'm unauthorised and it tries to record something?

YES!!!!!

Sorry for the joy in this but glad a couple of others are reporting this.

It is a bug confirmed to me by the Tivo team and happens to all HD channels except the Movies (if you have them).
Issue is if you leave any (or all) of the 3 tuners on a HD channel and switch the tv off for an hour or so and then come back to want to watch any of those channels they will all have that error message.
As pointed out the reboot fixes it but is annoying as you usually spot ti when you are recording something.

The other way to 'fix' it is go to the tuner that is on that HD channel and move off that channel. Move back to it and it will be ok.

The question about recording when this happens is not a good answer. I have had it happen twice now and it thinks it is recording as in it has the red light on the box and creates it in My shows but in reality it is not there and just a totally black recording that all you can do is delete.

For me this is the biggest thing to be sorted out over any red button/reminder etc.

Your recording turns into a recording of a blank screen I had this last night, had to revert to iPlayer to watch the programme instead

Thunbs up for the catch up service

The fix you describe about changing channels from HD channel to none HD channel then back to 108 worked last Satruday - think it worked all week before then. I will try reboot and if the problem continues will ring VM. Does anyone know if they can actually fix this - and does the probelm lay with the TiVo box? We have still got our V+HD box in another room and works fine.

No matter how many reboots you do it will come back believe me.
I have struggled with this issue since early May and took me a while to work out the pattern of events to trigger it but after I explained it to the Tivo team over the phone the woman confirmed it was a reported bug.

To test it for yourself 1 night when you have nothing scheduled to record put all 3 tuners on a HD channel and then next morning when you wake have a look at the 3 tuners and try and watch any of them still on the channel.
This should not have changed if you have suggestions switched off as I do but I appreciate some people still have it on so the tuners will have changed in the mean time.

Re: BBC 1 HD (108) not working on TiVo

So is there any way to solve this then - is this a problem with all TiVo boxes or do you just have to reboot all the time? or do you get offered a new TiVo box?

Re: BBC 1 HD (108) not working on TiVo

I believe it is a problem with all boxes as the Tivo team said there was no point sending out an engineer to replace my box.

You can try reporting it yourself and see what they say but Laura from the Tivo team called me about 3-4 times in total about it to ask if it was still happening etc and after I told her the scenario that made it happen she confirmed it was a bug and had been reported previously and was being looked at.

Whether it is going to be fixed in the supposed October code update is anyones guess but if it isn't I will be packing my Tivo off for a refund as not being able to record programs is what a PVR is supposed to do.
Red button/reminders etc are nice to have but not essential like recording!

Re: BBC 1 HD (108) not working on TiVo

I have just been watching Military History channel and suddenly the screen went blank (not an HD channel) and the reported message appeared. I changed channels then back again and the program reappeared for a few seconds, then the box rebooted itsself. I've just checked and all three tuners are tuned to Military History. My partner has just confirmed that she also gets the "not authorised" message when she puts certain channels on for the kids. Anyone else seeing this on non HD channels?

Re: BBC 1 HD (108) not working on TiVo

I've had the message, but as far as I remember only first time I switch it on each day. It's only ever been when I've left the box tuned to an HD channel when I've put it in standby the night before. It may well have been when I've recorded stuff in HD as well, but I don't remember having any blank recording issues.
