Right click on a file and select properties... is it set as read only?

Permissions possibly? Were the files created/written from this same machine and user account?

If this is because the file is locked by another process, try Unlocker http://download.cnet.com/Unlocker/30...-10493998.html

Re: no option to delete files from external hd (western digital)

I have seen this many times with hard drive video cameras. think a reformat of the drive is the only way to enable file deletion as its an intentional side effect of using xFAT as its designed for devices like video cameras that have the abilty to wipe files from the device itself.

Re: no option to delete files from external hd (western digital)

If the files were created by another system then the ownership may be preventing the deletion..

Select all files, right click go properties, security, advanced and under the permissions and owner tabs make sure that you have full rights to the files

He's using exFAT - there are no such permissions on exFAT.

Re: no option to delete files from external hd (western digital)

It does, but you still dont get a Security, Permissions or Ownership tab when using it under Windows.
