Re: Who was your first isp and what year was it

Tiny Dial-up 1998. It came bundled on a mates PC (obviously bought from tiny computers). Was an 0845 so not free but was as cheap as I could get because my Dad wouldn't pay for a subscription.
Switched to Xtream for a while from 1999 until It got to the point where even an hour of dialing couldn't get a connection.
Eventually wore my Dad down and we got AOL, not my best decision but it was mostly reliable.
Then in 2000 or 2001 we got Cable and wireless broadband through the pace stb I had in my room. Think it was 512k. Been with cable in one form or another ever since asside from 1 year when I lived in an un-cabled street and went with SKY BB.

Given their site directs to MAAF I'm guessing so, used to use the 0800 Free Offpeak number but sometimes getting on was a nightmare, constant engaged tone, upgraded to AOL (lol) but at least you got the service as it was subscription based and then went to NTL:Broadband as soon as it arrived in our area, 128k supposedly but got 256 which I believe is down to the bandwidth being shared with the interactive

2002 AOL dial-up. I miss the sounds of the modem, though not after 10 at night.

Re: Who was your first isp and what year was it

95ish Demon Internet.

I remember some of the conversations...

"Hello Demon Internet?"

"Hello, your Black Romp is down"

"It Might be your Modem Sir, What modem are you using?"

"US Robotics Courier V.Everything"

"Ok Sir, I'll get in touch with our networking people and let them know the Black Romp is down"

I still have that modem, and it still works.

Old School USR Modems were bomb proof - I means the ones that actually did everything, not the later ones that emulated some stuff in the CPU
