Another unexplained recording hiccup

I've been hit with another motorsport event that didn't record, the hiccups says it's because the show is rerun within 28 days, but the show isn't on again when looking in the upcoming recordings or searching.

Details:
TT Motorcycle Racing "2011: Senior Race" on Sat Jun 11, 11:00 channel 118 ITV4

This episode was not recorded because the same episode appeared in My Shows or My Planned Recordings within 28 days of this broadcast.

This was a series link called TT Motorcycle Racing (118 ITV4)

It's happened 3 times now where I've missed sports events, and this one is not reshown as far as I can see. I'll have to make do with a TT week's highlights show tonight (assuming TiVo decides to record it)

Not amused.

Re: Another unexplained recording hiccup

this might be down to the programme data. Is the last one you recorded sitting in you deleted folder? If so then that's likely what it's seeing and thinks it's the same programme. If you want to record this one on a regular basis, until whoever supplies the epg data for it, when you've finished watching the current one and have deleted it I would then also delete it from your deleted folder as well.

I had to do this when I had the end cut off something that overran. I programmed it to record another airing, but had to completely delete the orignal recording off the hard drive or it would record it.

Hope this is of some help...

Don't think it's that. There were about 7 shows all this week for the TT and TiVo recorded everyone except the Saturday race. It didn't get confused over which was which, as it seems to think that the show is on within the next 28 days, and presumably couldn't record it because there was a clash, although I cant think what was clashing.

The main point is, TiVo is saying the show is on again within 28 days, but it isn't. The EPG data is correct, but the show just isn't on again.

Every time this happens, I lose faith in TiVo. It's not practical to keep checking up on all the wish lists and series links to see what might and might not record. Kind of defeats the point of TiVo anyhow.

I haven't had your issues Boz but I see enough posts from people with similar problems with series links to know that VM have got to make the company that presents the epg data up their game. Admittedly there will always be some problems if you read the feedback in forums but I think this is happening too often.

You're misreading what it's telling you. From what you've written you're inferring it's telling you it's rerun within 28 days, but actually it's saying it's either already in 'my shows' (meaning recorded) or 'my planned recordings' (another episode you've told it to record later) within the forward or past 28 days. There is a difference.

I suspect there is something in the EPG programming of that particular episode that makes it think it's one you've already recorded.

I'm confused. I don't have that show in my recordings anywhere (checked some other wish lists it might have been in).

Bottom line, it didn't record and that episode isn't re-run. Ive missed it.

TiVo has let me down again, and I'm none the wiser on how to prevent in future. The EPG data looks fine.

The 11am Saturday show was a repeat of Friday at 9pm, so if you recorded and saw that you've missed nothing.

Re: Another unexplained recording hiccup

Are you sure? The senior TT race was late on Friday so the friday show didn't have the race, instead highlights of previous races, and they said the Saturday was going to have the senior TT.

I got the highlights on the Sunday round up show, but it was only a small part of the show.

Perhaps this is a case where dynamic EPG might have saved the day?

What I'm saying is that it's possible due to EPG data that it 'thinks' one of the other episodes was the same as this one, so therefore didn't record. It's not that it thinks there's a rerun later - it thinks you already have it.

If what Adder says is true, then that will be the answer. Even if it wasn't the same episode if the EPG makes it think it's the same episode it won't record it.

Re: Another unexplained recording hiccup

Thanks guys for helping me diagnose this. The 11am was a pure repeat of the Friday show, it seems a schedule change was made so that the senior TT was shown on Saturday night at 9pm, bumping and audience with Billy Connelly I think.

Couple of things:
- plus one vote for dynamic EPG from me
- TiVo could do with more detail in it's hiccup diagnosis, like telling me which exact showing was thought to have been already recorded.

Thanks again!
