well i wouldnt want a big router which doesnt do any routing, id rather have a smaller modem, with a separate router alongside
there is a new superhub coming along, but its identical, the only difference being that its from another vendor

Re: Modem only or Modem/Router
Well you will be able to use the Superhub as a standalone modem once the firmware is on offer apart from that the will not be an option for a another modem to be supplied as the is already a lot of money invested in the hubs.

sorry, it wasnt very well explained, but yeah, for basic needs, a cheap modem/router combined is probably a good option

That's what you will have. To use it as a modem only is up to you.

I know that but soon enough we will have modem mode and this thread will no longer be needed.

thats providing the modem mode works, which im sure it will, the programmers for netgear are more than capable of producing a good piece of firmware
and id rather have a smaller device, like the VMNG than the superhub if it is acting as a standalone modem, as it defeats the object if you have two bigger sized routers sat next to eachother

being a tech, you will probably have one in your van, but as the netgear and the unknown other vendor will be mixed in, its going to be pot luck as to what us commoners get

Not sure how you will tell the difference, probably by MAC address I expect as it will not have the brand externally.

well I doubt it will say "Netgear" on the back as the current one does, so that will be one way to tell

Re: Modem only or Modem/Router
I imagine it would be cisco, seem to have a good relationship with vm and the TiVo isn't bad for 1st attempt.

Computer says no, not a single guess has been anywhere near so it will be a surprise.
I cannot say anything more though so do not ask.
