Painfully Slow Connection

Hey all, new here, sorry for creating a new thread if there is a running one for things like this but being driven to the point of madness by my connection speeds of late.

Had V Media 20mb package installed about 7 - 8 Months ago at a guess, all started off fantastic speeds of nigh on as promised, though some nights would just slip between 10 - 13mbps however just put it down to high traffic in the area. And gradually over time stayed around this level, however for about 3 weeks now my connection speeds have died yet further.

Im Lucky sometimes If I can open speed connection sites let alone run the test, when they do run 1 - 3mbps is the order of the day, now im pretty patient but this is now silly.

Is anybody aware if there are any ongoing issues with Vmedia atm, or am I just an unlucky one, Do I need to call a certain number to see if anybody can help resolve the issue?

If this continues I might just look for a new ISP.
Again sorry if there is a thread for this kind of stuff, if so maybe someone could hit us up with a link.

Ta Muchly

Re: Painfully Slow Connection

its your upstream that is at fault, and will likely be the cause of your problems, you will need to ring and get an engineer to see to it. at the moment your power level is high, and your modulation has changed to QPSK which indicates noise, so you might have a local issue

no probs, and for future reference, dont post the MAC address of your modem on the internet, as they can be used to clone your modem etc.

As far as i can see; but i'm no expert, the upstream is at fault as it should be somewhere around 40 dBmV

35-55 dBmv is the optimum range so at 55dBmv the op is right "on the edge" so to speak. It gives no leeway for any fluctation and is the obvious thing to get sorted first.

Re: Painfully Slow Connection

it was at 55.2 at the time of posting, and that figure goes up and down during the day, so I would say it needs adjusting

It can go up to 58dBmv ( some modems higher) and then re-sets along with a drop in connection.

It then cycles again with 0.25dBmv increments until the connection is lost again followed by a reset. The post of the levels was a snapshot and didn't show if that was indeed the case.

A signal level of 55.2 would suggest a problem as it should've reported 55.25.

Whatever, it needs adjusting due to the height of it alone. IMHO.
