Angry Set top box dead?

Hi All
I seem to have lost all my VM services and the box itself seems to be dead. If I power it off and then back on, all I get is the box says LD20 and goes no further. So I have no phone or anything, can I do something to kick the box back into life? Thanks a lot.

Re: Set top box dead?

try turning it off for a few minutes then turning back on.

check your neighbours, it might be an area issue.

Service status.

Sorry, this service isn't working at the moment. Please try again later on.

Vaguely ironic.

Done the box reboot a few times now thanks, still not a lot from the box. If there was a problem in the area would the box itself play up? The service status is not available at present!

Please explain how you know that if the service status is not available?

Re: Set top box dead?

If the service status is not available there is a problem somewhere, if the STB is not working, there is a problem somewhere, if you've tried rebooting several times, there's a problem somewhere, no phone, there's a problem somewhere.

Anything else?

Re: Set top box dead?

LD20 usually points to an area issue, do you still get broadband through your set top box as it may have failed and if that is the case you may need a standalone modem and a new set top box.

Can VM see if a box dies or has a fault?

I only ask because, on Saturday there was a Rolls-Royce in our local shpping centre, and the driver was telling us if the car gets a punchure, it inflates the tyre with a hole filling stuff (cannot think of the stuff), and calls RR, they then call you to find out were you are going and arrange to have a tyre waiting for you, now thats what I call a service.

There is a little difference between what Rolls Royce charge you and what Virgin Media charge. I would expect the kind of service they offer for a car costing north of £200,000.

As for seeing if the box is faulty, they can do things like download the error log on the box, but that assumes that the box isn't actually dead, and is able to communicate via Cable.

I suspect that Virgin do have hardware within the network that is able to detect faults in the network and notifies the relevant departments, but I am not sure that would be practical for 3 million STBs.
