Police Officer killed in Northern Ireland

A new recruit to the Police Service of Northern Ireland is understood to have been caught up in a booby trap car bomb in Omagh, Co Tyrone.
A sad reminder that terrorist attacks are nothing new to the UK and are not restricted to attacks from Muslim extremists.

Re: Police Officer killed in Northern Ireland

What words can sum up the **** who do things like this? There's no debating with people like this - they're not interested in debate or concensus unless it gives them their way. These hypocrites live in the bloody past and will never change. Our only hope is that, over time, their ilk will be seen by all for what they really are and their justification for the murder of innocent people be exposed for what it really is - pathetic.

Thankfully the vast majority of people here and in Ireland are rightly condemning this act and that'll bring great comfort to the family and loved ones of the vicitm. That's the best possible evidence there can be that the terrorists' days are numbered.

Thankfully incidents like this have become a rarity in NI, so much that the whole of the UK can feel the shock and feel disgusted over this when once it was case of one among many and too many to take stock of.

No it hasn't. It's just how the British media would have you believe. Pick up a copy of the Irish Independant. It's happening all the time. We are just too much into muslim terrorism at the moment,

I don't think so.There are continuing attempts to overturn the peace process and return to past behaviour BUT they are not supported as much as they would have been in the past.

I have an XBL friend who lives near Belfast, incidents happen regularly.

Thankfully most 'incidents' recently have been elaborate hoaxes.

Not so much as we're led to believe.

Yes very true, my guy works over in NI and is based in Belfast although covers all the hospitals in NI. All too often 'incidents' don't even make our newspapers I hate him working there, its always a relief when I know he's coming home. He often talks about pubs you can go into and pubs you can't etc etc, can't believe there are people who still live their lives in that way.

Very sad indeed, RIP the policeman.

unfortunately with an english accent this is true. its no different to the sectarianism in glasgow. pubs in the centre of belfast will be ok but some of the pubs in other part of the city I wouldn't even go into. as for pubs in certain towns in the country well let just say, have you watched the scene in american werewolf in london when the two boys go into the slaughtered lamb. it all goes quiet and everyone turns round an stares. some communities are very close and dont like strangers.

Re: Police Officer killed in Northern Ireland

Did anyone else hear the debate on the Stephen Nolan show on 5Live Sunday night/Monday morning?

The piece on the killing of the officer, with IRA man (Edward) and Northern Irish residents (some in tears at hearing Edward)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland.../20110404_diss

Edward also suggested that attacks on the mainland would commence again

It really was quite unnerving.
