There is obviously going to be some jigging of pricing over the next few years. Maybe there will be a tivo box with less functionality at some stage?
As muppetman11 says, some people won't want to pay an extra 3 p/m if all they want is a basic PVR.

Premium product
All this doesn’t come cheap - £199 plus £40 installation for existing customers, and a further monthly premium on the existing top-tier TV package.
“We are premium-positioning,” Rose says, whilst demoing the box for paidContent:UK at Virgin’s London HQ. “We’re initially positioning this as a high-end product as a tier on top of TV XL - £3 more expensive than the standard TV XL subscription. However, we intend to migrate our entire television customer base over to TiVo as our standard product within a matter of years, and not many years. That means, undoubtedly, we will course-correct, refine and review packaging and pricing decisions as we go to make that happen.”

I'm sure there will be cheaper/lower tier options as we go forward, but not for at least 12-18 months.

I'd agree with that. The V+ will be available as a standard PVR option for that period (?). If so, all bases are covered.

Re: TiVo
Well i have had my tivo just over a week and got to say defo ticking the right boxes,Total result the update coming in my first week and the promised 3rd tuner.Yes there are bugs but the +`s weigh more than the -`s,Couple of annoying things keeps switching from 1080i to 720p and suggested programs only seem to record sd versions even thou the hd channel is there.I assume everyone else is having these issues and hopefully will get sorted in next update,Yes its a game changer but badly needs more hd channels now to support it.Got to be a prioty now vm

By using the Skip forward button. While fast forwarding, a short press of it will fast forward to the next white mark on the progress bar and a long press takes you to the last few minutes of the programme, where you can then rewind back 45 minutes using the skip back button.

Re: TiVo
Saw TiVo in action for the first time today at the Ideal Home Show. They have four boxes running, with two side by side. The two screens I could see had Comedy Central HD on one and 5*+1 SD on the other. HD looked great, SD about the same as my Samsung V+, although that is not a channel I would normally watch so it's hard to be more precise than that. Young lad doing the demo went through all the features with screens loading quickly, apart from a bit of a wait for some images to appear when entering the suggestions menu. He made the mistake of asking my daughter for her favourite programme when explaining the search feature, the cast list for Peppa Pig was empty! I was impressed a lot, but happier that it impressed Mrs Sminky as well. Prices quoted were £149 activation for existing customers with £3 a month extra, £199 plus £40 install and £3 a month. I didnt ask about VIP pricing as i think he was just a hired hand for the show working from a script so to speak. He also said it will be available from the 4th April.

Re: TiVo
Do we know when VHD boxes will be upgraded with the TiVo software? Another question is there anyway the Samsung V+ being able to except a TiVo upgrade?

I think the 'would be nice' sums it up. Some are new channels which would be good to have even in SD. The others are available in SD so you're not losing out on content.
I'd elivate Sky atlantic to 'really want', but not at any cost, so VM are right to wait for a decent price in my view. I'd also like the other ITV HD channels.
But to me, tivo functionality outweighs the above missing channels if I had to choose. Quantity of content isn't always king.
Nothing wrong with wanting both though.

I'm the same, but as I never watch anything live, the 20 hours HD recording space on V+ forces me to have some recordings in SD. Tivo will fix that problem though.
