Re: TiVo

I just thought I'd add this for those that have never seen the 2001 TiVo Series 1. Well there is it on the left, next to the PS3 and VM TiVo above...

The black window on the front had the recording + standby/downloading LEDs and an IR blaster for changing the STB channel when it was due to record. It had an ethernet connection (well you could add one via a PCI card as it was basically a PC running Linux which meant you could login to the command line and add various hacks and scripts for new functionality. If only VM TiVo ran Linux :p

Oh it very well may do, Ben, no idea. I'm sure it's slightly more difficult to gain command line access these days tho.

Most of the case was empty though, it was just a motherboard, HDD and PSU! It was huge, but for it's day is was amazing! Haha. I'm sure Nige said a few years ago they had one in the office, did you never see it?

Edit: Saying it was few years, it was actually 2004 when I met Nige doing trials!

I would imagine there will be more complaints from people who set the series link and then don't go in to change the padding options and end up missing the end of all their shows !
Surely the way to eradicate this problem would be a dynamic EPG which I understand has already been fed back to VM.
