It doesn't give out the quiet hum that the V+ does, but it's *so* quiet you can hear the head movement on the hard drive (in a quiet enough room anyway) which is harder for your brain to screen out (as it's random).

So the answer is 'it's quieter, but you might notice it more'

Does the PS3 pass the SD signal in 576i and let the TV do the scaling do you know?
The PS3 is outputting 1080p to the set. My TVs scaler is not as good.

So the PS3's scaler is better than the Tivo?

Yep. theres a poll on TiVo community Forum and about 30% have come over from Sky for TiVo.
Well when Tivo is running and the hard drive is spinning would you say it was louder than the Samsung box?

(A hint of sarcasm, maybe, but I'm genuinely curious/confused)

TBH, I think both are important. It's good for them to get feedback from normal users, not just gadget geeks like us who spend time hanging around forums such as this one (and, in my case, many others ).

But if the 'gossip' is to be believed, the only people to already have had TiVo installed are the 'gadget geeks' who have already had experienced the s1 TiVo

But I guess there are those people who were lucky enough to get a peanut in the post and took VM up on their offer of free TiVo.... but surely their feedback isn't going to be too scathing.... having got their TiVo for free

I can honestly say I've never heard a sound out of mine.

My trusty SA V+HD, I could hear the HD spinning up and down - it didn't bother me, but some people had issues, especially if their V+ was in the bedroom.

Re: TiVo

My Samsung V+ box is really quite I can leave it on in our bedroom now when sleeping, couldn't do that with SA V+ box. I've got it plugged in separately now to rest of equipment tv etc.

TiVo is very quiet... I can only hear the HDD if I put my ear up to it.
