Yes because you will probably never see them on a box built specifically for Virginmedia.

You will get the features Virginmedia want in their version of the box, maybe after the full rollout they may consider asking customers if they want more advanced features but equally they may not, it also depends on the contract with TiVo.

They will utilise as many features as possible and if its available in the US theres a chance of it coming over here , cant do any harm anyway.

All you can do is wait until the full rollout with the 3rd tuner and see what they have installed on the box, they can always add more to the interface if the is demand but only time will tell.

Fully aware of how forums work thanks.

At no stage during the self proclaimed "rant" did he question the post he was replying to - he was complaining that a negative post was putting a downer on him wanting one. While he gave his permission for an opposing opinion (glad he had his permission) he felt he was called an idiot because someone posted negative comment about it.

And to quote the post I was talking about (with the changing of V+ with Tivo)...

You can't claim an opinion to be narrow minded while at the same time demonstrating the same narrow minded position, well you can but your look an idiot.

Will add the obligatory smilies to demonstrate jesting - am just not sure which one to use.

The search feature is unimpressive. The mini-guide is under-powered. And there are so few options to customise your interface or experience! Only one list of favourite channels? And not even reorderin of channels? Dude!
I can't believe that a product that has been in the making for such a long time by such a large company manages to offer such a poor experience...
I won't even mention the fact that the ethernet connection is disabled (MAJOR feature loss), which means no local network streaming; that remote recording from the online tv guide fails every time...
I don't know what box you've been using, but the UI is pretty good and a vast improvement over the likes of V+. Yes there are still SD screens, but this is because the software is being re-written for VM using the US Premier code as a base and that's where the SD screens come from. We should see more HD pages added with new updates as the year goes on. The mini-screen stops because it was never incorporated into the SD UI. Some Series Link pages are in HD, depending how you access them.

I don't see how the search is unimpressive, the results pop up almost instantly as you type. I haven't had any show take more than 4 characters to appear on the first page of results. Yes it may not be right at the top, but that's what the down arrow is for. The box learns what you like so your most popular searches will start to appear at the top.

I don't see why re-ordering of channels is such an issue, it's not something I've ever felt the need to do.

I'm sure the ethernet ports will be enabled as the Premier boxes in the US can stream recordings to other boxes or you can copy content. Everything is already in the code and you can see clues in some of the system info pages. There's no reason for VM not to implement it.

Remember many of the features are being added at request of VM. VM do not do any coding as this is done by TiVo themselves, VM just license the code. If you're happy with Freeview and your Topfield (twice the price of the TiVo and is basically a PC in a nice box) then stick with it.

I'll admit I do find the SD a pain myself and the box can be sluggish at times, but it will improve. It's not on general release as yet, but is pretty much good to go imho.

This is definitely coming very soon and I'm sure it will be vastly better implemented than on the V+

That is the key problem i have. That's been the problem with the V+ box, it's actually a much better box than it appears, but it's had all the good stuff turned off, because VM didn't want to have things like ethernet streaming to support.

Re: TiVo

What do people think of the SD upscaling in the TiVo?

Personally this is the only thing that lets another wise great bit of kit down. The upscaling of SD was much sharper on the V+. I'm guessing the TiVo menus were drawn in 720 also as even these look slightly softer in 1080i. For best results I've gone back to 720p output except for the odd movie which I'll go back to 1080i for.

Isn't most UK HDTV broadcast in 720 anyhow?

Re: TiVo

No all UK HD is 1080i.

The menus look pin sharp in 1080 to me but then I have a full HD set - it really depends on your TV how well it looks, which is why you have both options.

If the video resolution menu worked as it should you could select 576i and have the TV do the upscaling for you (although I find the Tivo's one to be fine). Hopefully that'll be fixed in an update.

I think you need to go back and read the post I was replying to, he "paid for" what?

He started his post by saying "Don't get sucked it" and ends it with "If you want youtube use your PC ". That's not stating his opinion that's him telling me what I should be doing.

I'm not saying he should wont one, I don't care if he wants one or not, thats up to him.

Re: TiVo

My TV is Full HD, it's Panasonics latest, the TX-P42V20B. Switching between the two 720p does looks sharper for SD shows to me.

I don't doubt that. I'm a new VM customer, so didn't get the dubious honour of owning a V+. The Samsung basic V box I had (for a week) was plenty bad indeed.

Good for you, but I have and feel aggravated that such a basic user feature could not be present. For example, I don't feel I need BBC One and BBC One HD to be shown, but feel I'm entitled to have BBC One HD shown before BBC Two in my list (matching my viewing habits, rather than the opposite)

I may be wrong, but isn't that a feature already available on vanilla TiVo S3? If so, it looks like VM disallowed it rather than not implement it... Which begs the question: why and why would they start allowing it?

It's all very good to post a quote yet change the content but it still stands that he was saying that his V+ is fine and the majority of people on VM and I said that that was narrow minded because he was making presumptions on his own experience and not considering other peoples.

I suspect the real figure on the V-HD is a lot lower than 18W. That will be absolute worst case with maximum load on the USB, display at full brightness, etc.
