Operating profits at British Gas rose 24% in 2010 to £742m, its parent company Centrica has said.
First paragraph of the last BBC link.

My Mistake they aren't American..but they are a multiglobal company..and they will therefore only pay taxes on profit made in this country..

Don't the shareholders own British Gas?

And who knows where they might be from

Moved away from them at the start of the rot they are in. Will never return to them. As far as crap service with high cost goes you cannot beat BG and Npower. Npower are nasty towards anyone who does not pay on time even if its your first time and only by 3 days. I missed 1 payment due to moving banks and they sent a red letter from the inhouse collections agency saying they wanted to put me on a card meter. I phoned up and they took the payment from a debit card and refused to say sorry. I moved my gas and electricity the next day.

Not really as Cadbury is owned by Kraft foods which is an American company.

Isn't Kraft a listed company so it is owned by its shareholders and hence its nationality dependent on that of its shareholders?

Its Headquarters are in Northbrook Illinois and it is listed on the New York Stock Exchange but it is still an American company.

Ok - I 'm just going to have to disagree with you, we could carry on but there are more important things

A good many companies are multi global particularly oil and fuel companies and pharmaceuticals. They may be owned in one country but have business in other countries.

Re: British Gas profits. a record £720m.

Just had our annual gas statement from British Gas. It estimates a total forecast of £534.53 for the next 12 month. That's lower than the 2009 - 2010 statement. Mind you, we did have a new combi boiler fitted about 9 months ago, so that would've made a difference.

BTW were on the "Essentials" teriff.
