Re: Hopeless in Libya

Not sure if its Britains Shame!!! Libya has been volatile for many years, any british who go out there to work knew the risks, so why should the taxpayer now pay many thousands of pounds to "rescue" those out there, who, no doubt have not paid a penny tax in the UK since their employment in Libya started!!!! (I could be wrong on that last assumption!)

Alot of the companies over there are British and have a proportion of British workers ,if the company they are working for is based in the uk then they will pay British tax on their earnings ,and don't forget the embassy staff .even if the company is not British if the worker is in Britain for 183 days or more in a tax year then he/she is classed as living in Britain and will pay British tax

I doubt they'll pay British taxes if employed by a British company and are there for most of the year. Either way, it's immaterial. Other countries manage to get their people out. Why can't the UK?

according to the BBC there are 2 planes on the tarmac but there are technical difficulties

that probably means someone has to pay before they take off

I agree we should be able to get them out ,our reponse has been lack lustre to say the least.

On the issue of tax ,i don't care if they do pay tax or not they are British citizens working abroard , so deserve the governments support ,i was merely making the point that if a person is in the uk for 183 days in a tax year then they will pay uk tax
