The religion of the soldiers is (largely) irrelevant. Which is, I think, the point made in the OP link.

Re: UK's Muslim soldiers ‘fighting extremists not Muslims'
It shouldn't be a problem for him,and i'm pleased he has the sense to realise that ,and disapointed that the BBC see it as a possible issue ,he is there to do what he is told when he is told nothing more nothing less. The British or for that matter any other force out there are not fighting a religious war regardless of what the media would have us believe

Issues seem to be so clear in your mind Gary, there doesn't appear to be any shades of grey just black or white.
Rather like George Bush with his "your either with us or against us" philosophy, I suppose this is why you are comfortable stating what the rest of humanity thinks.

The rest of society probably thinks they should shake his hand for doing what he's doing. even I think his hand needs shaking for telling me that he's doing the job he's paid to do and not going AWOL

No it doesn't. you're just finding a reason to bring the good old 'Muslims and us' into it. just because I added a colour to a list that was already mentioned.
just because a muslim is brown.
Why would the BBC think it worthy of a story just because he's a Muslim?
he said himself people shake his hand because he's a Muslim.
one big drama because he's a Muslim in the British army. and today his assignment is to fight Muslim extremists.
are we surprised he's doing it? are we surprised he didn't refuse and his options are to go AWOL because he didn't want to do it?
no. but the BBC think it's great.
the OP thinks it's great.
I think it's great.
it's an issue worthy of a story.
now if you were to have a few non muslim soldiers stating that they were a bit uneasy with him being a muslim, and they don't know whether they could trust him.
that's another story.
there.

That's your own tunnelled vision of things once again.
Pay for HM forces starts at a handsome £13-15K on entry, this can rise to £20,000 on completion of training. It's not bad considering they have nothing to pay out.
Many new recruits leave after the first year because they can't hack it, some see out their time and sign up for more.
Please stop spouting your bottom gravy to me, you obviously know nothing about the workings and pay structure of HM Forces.

It would appear you also have gaps in your knowledge, as trainees pay approx 14% of their gross salary for food and accommodation - one appears to be also issuing, as you say, "bottom gravy"...

And you call that paying out?? Jesus you need to get out more and stop playing with Google. I was paying more than that in 1984.
Take into account they have the best medical care in the world when in a theatre of war and when back in barracks they get paid handsomely.
I'd like to take you through the sheep dip then onto the 30 mile march.

Re: UK's Muslim soldiers ‘fighting extremists not Muslims'
You are the one that has issues with facts - you stated "they have nothing to pay out", when in fact it is approx 14%.
I checked the facts just in case they had changed from when I served - they hadn't.
Deal with it....
btw, they have the "best medical care in the world" mainly because they need it, due to the splodey things going off around them - if they weren't, they wouldn't need it, would they? (sort of adding body armour as a benefit, when in fact it's only required because of the job....).
