Well fingers crossed when Customer Services calls me back later this week, they say the same thing to me! (See my post on page 112)

Above speed was on a wireless connection

I got a call this morning from the agent I spoke to last week. He said that an email had arrived allowing the upgrade to 30Mb without the loss of any discounts (I wont say retention discounts as VM offered it without any threats from me to leave etc). Engineer install 24th Feb, £30 on next bill. New 12 month contract but wasn't planning to leave any time soon, so it seems VM have decided they want all those £30's after all.

Cheers

Only if you don't have the Super hub just now.

I still don't understand why they send an Engineer out to some users.
It is simple enough to change the old modem and router to the new super hub.

Thanks for your replies and @aductedcraig

I much prefer the term loyalty discount too, as we didn't threatern to leave either but it was noted that we've been customers for a long time so they had a look at what they could do for us. [OFF TOPIC]

Anyway it all looks alot more possitive this evening then. I must admit I was a bit miffed last week at being told we would be able to get 30mb.

Probably one of the high street stores that can get a staff discount on Virginmedia services.

Indeed, DSGi is one but there will be others such as CPW.

Masque, Where would I find my 5 digit order number? I was asked for it today but it wasn't in the e-mail I got about moving to 30mb.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

Not too happy right now. Broadband has disconnected - phoned Technical Support and they told me its because of the 30mb upgrade. Despite the fact the modem isn't coming until Thurs. So they put me through to Customer Service to see why it had happened.

Customer Service told me that I haven't been disconnected and it won't get upgraded until Thursday but couldn't explain why my broadband wasn't working now. Got put on hold and then they hung up.

So rung back and got through to technical support who said them same again plus tried to blame it on my router and that I should phone Apple (every time they do this, and every time it has been a VM issue), but wouldn't do anything other than tell me to wait until Thursday.

Is there anyway of getting through to UK Customer Service or Technical Support at this time of night? India is hopeless.

I upgraded from L to XL BB in November last and got the standard hub and was wondering if this could be changed to the superhub now that 30 mb is being rolled out

Yes if you pay the £30 fee and upgrade to 30Mbit

All I received was my 7 digit KANA email reference the was no other number in my email so I have no idea where a 5 digit number would come into it but the will be notes on your account so they should be able to retrieve it from their after DPA.

I can see increasing amounts of people not paying the £30 fee to receive the hardware either.

It's always a good sign when you have such confidence in your products that you try and make people pay full price and quit doing so after all of a week because they're so used to paying less, this despite charging the lowest price in the UK for a similar package already on standard pricing.

VM really are terrified of losing subscribers, they are only really gaining them by passing new homes now - this is the same as every other mature cable company in the world, get over it. I expect the financial types would be far more impressed by earnings per share going up than slowing down ARPU and reducing profitability hanging on to customers at any cost.

At least VM haven't got loads of people cancelling their TV packages and running broadband only and using that for TV and VoIP services... yet.

Cord cutter.

Will be pretty funny when that happens, people on broadband only, using it for supplementing Freeview and voice services, and VM will probably still give retentions discounts on that as well

To those of you who got discounts - well done - to those of you who haven't yet, keep calling. For whatever reason VM seem either incapable of noticing or just don't care when people call several times basically pestering for a discount. It seems to work eventually!
