b. Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced; or

c. Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments make significant changes to the terms and conditions of these agreements (including the other legal stuff ),

you may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment (as applicable) at least 30 days' notice in writing. If you cancel any services in these circumstances, the increased charges will not apply to those services during the 30-day notice period and paragraph J3 will not apply if you cancel before the end of the minimum period . If you do not give such notice of cancellation within 30 days of any increase in charges or changes to the services or this agreement being notified to you or, if later, receipt of your first bill following such increase in charges, Virgin Media, Virgin Media Entertainment (if applicable) and Virgin Media Payments will assume that you have accepted the increase in charges and the changes to the services and these agreements and you will no longer be able to cancel your services under this paragraph.


So i called virgin media up as i'm in contract for all the services and they are all effected by the prices increase. i talked to the guy about the above he stated he would confirm with his manager if this was the case put me on hold and after a few minutes wait came back to me and confired that i could cancel all my services for free due to prices increase also his manager confirmed this to me as well. he gave me an address to write to too to give my 30days notices as you have to write in to give the notices.

So you can cancel your services that are effected by the price increase if you still are in contract. so bye bye virgin media

So if you move to another provider who will have increases at some point, Will you then leave them as well ???

nope as i work for an services provider not telling who i can get free services line rental call plan and BB for nothing and not costing me anything so no i will not have to pay any increases

Yes maybe but if you leave the company or are made redundant/fired you are still in contract and will need to pay the remainder of the contract ( so i would be careful )

true but

1) i'm not going to leave the company anytime soon not in this economic climate.

2) being made redundant a possibility and get fired only if i dont do the job they pay me too which will not be the case as i put 110% in

Anything can happen? I thought that my job as a baker was secure, but hey ho they said on on the way you go ( and that is with 20 years experience ). As they had got new staff in that they could pay less?

yes virgin media put up the prices so is everything else !

people not happy talking about jumping to sky ! go for it cause come september they will increase the prices again !!
everybody is struggling in todays climate, price increases on everything,

i always say if you not happy and you think the grass is greener on the other side then you know where the door is !!

virgin media staff probaly do get a discount perks of the job, cant fault them while iam on the subject of virgin media staff on these forums i have asked many a question and they take there time to help me so just like to say thank you to them !!

I tend to think the whole sky boxes work a lot better than VM and I'm getting a little miffed off with the loss of channels all the time..VM increase the prices but we get less channels?

Bravo and channel 1 I watched both and a little unhappy that they had to go. I can understand some price increases e.g rental of channels from sky etc but what I can't understand is what reasons are there for line rental increase? I thought VM provided there own lines or do they rent from BT?

As for the increase in extra boxes whats all that about? what reasons are there for doing that as the boxes are owned by VM?

SKY closed both Bravo and Channel One not Virginmedia so no good going to SKY to get them back, and at least Virginmedia will never charge for a callout unlike SKY.

i know what you saying, i feel the same about the channels being taken off air but that due to sky not vm, theres more hd channels on the way and as for the price increase in extra boxes i have 3 v hd multiroom boxes and even the price increase is still a bargain agaisnt sky multiroom.

Well I was of the understanding that VM owned the bravo and channel 1 package before selling them off to sky?

As for the extra box charge its one thing I dont understand because I can understand tv packages going up for rental and other stuff etc.

But the extra boxes there is no reason as they are owned by virgin once they are in unless something goes wrong they dont need to be touched so what reason is there for increases the price for the boxes?

Like you said, its everything: Bus fares; Food; Petrol; Gas; Electric etc etc.

Stuff like Cable TV is a luxury in these times. As I said to my sister a few hours ago, "If you can't afford it, don't have it, get rid." Really want HD? Wait for DSO to be completed and watch Freeview HD or better yet, get a Blu Ray and a Lovefilm subscription.

OK. But how are Virgin going to pay more content providers out of the XL fee for more HD channels?

By raising the price a little, that's how.

I'm sure I read somewhere that for every XL customer, ESPN gets 20p from Virgin or something like that. At some point (which has probably already been reached for now), there won't be enough from the XL charge for Virgin to pay the extra wholesale charges for say, ITV HD 2/3/4, ESPN America HD, SSN HD etc.

Its either little price rises now and then, or Virgin have a 'HD charge' on top of XL for non-premium HD content, just like Sky.

you rent the boxes from vm like i said before still a bargain for extra boxes compared to sky !

The whole rental thing is sort of swings and roundabouts.

I paid £129 to have my broadband and V+ connected in August 2009. A year later I had to leave since my placement took me to an area without VM. Come August 2011 - I'll have to pay those fees or similar ones again to be 'connected'.

With Sky, I own my box so if I leave then rejoin a year later, I wont have to pay out for the equipment so long as my own is still in working order. This whole callout charge nonsense is very easily avoided (just tell the person on the phone that you'd prefer to disconnect!).

The only reason VM get away with these 'connection' charges (separate to installation) is because Sky charge for equipment, but at least with Sky's charge you walk away with a piece of equipment which will save you the charge upon rejoining!
