blue bottom light is when you are connected to a gigabyte ethernet card.
top blue came on when i changed the 802.11N Band to 5ghz.

She said earliest activation would be Fri 11th, would be delivered by UPS and self install, and new monthly payments would actually be reduced (which I knew they should from online, but you never know what happens when you actually are speaking to someone.

I asked for more information about self install and specifically asked if there was somewhere I would need to phone or if it would be automatic - she said automatic. So from looking at this thread while she was up to speed with the upgrade ordering, sounds like she's not so up to speed on the actual upgrade/update process.

Just a little nervous though as I'm looking at some of these posts with problems and all the info they're giving to try to get help and I wouldn't even know where to begin to look at or find any of that info - so I hope it goes smoothly or else I'll be back for some hand-holding walkthrough's!

Give me software to work with (Office, photoshop, publisher etc) and I'm good to go - talk hardware configuration and my eyes glaze over and I get palpitations
When you get the box it will contain cables etc that you may not require (I didn't) so put them to one side and read through the simple steps.

Honestly it is all dumbed down so as to be as non confusing as possible. Just have your account number to hand, write down the MAC code printed on the Superhub and call the number in the literature. It takes a while (10) minute to settle down and if you have a switched off computer connected into one of the ethernet ports you are good to go when the lights are green, green, blue (top).

My P.C.'s were set up up with static IP's in a different router's range scale with also specified DNS servers which would have caused complications. Most people use DHCP with auto allocated DNS so unless you have specified something other than default, it should be plain sailing.

The router access IP is in the literature along with user name + initial password (needs changing). Wireless is easy to set up and sets to good security straight out of the box. I can see about 12 networks around my house and 4 are wide open but just follow the simple instructions and it does it all with good security.

You have nothing to worry about unless you already have levels of complications with multiple networks or devices using different levels of wireless eg B, G & N. If you had you would already be working out the work arounds so don't worry.

I as one of the 20meg sceptics who didn't want to lose out on upgrading but with a satisfactory deal went for it and am pleased that I did.

I feel sorry for people who are in non upload upgraded areas because until they are sorted they will not see numbers like these.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

Also, some more advanced internet users may wish to opt out of Virgin Medias "advanced network error search" after changing to the superhub.

You apparently have to opt-out every time you change your modem.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

I wanted to do the upgrade from 20 to 30 but due to my deals I couldnt get it for less than £5 a month extra, or 50mb for £10 per month extra.
I think I will wait a bit longer.
Shame though.

So £1.25 per week stopped you from upgrading.

Thats exactly what it is. Personally, I prefer to get the NXDOMAIN page, than a search engine kind of page. Its just a personal preference. I just posted to remind people that have opted out, that they will need to opt-out again once they have installed the superhub.

or you could say £60 per year plus connection of £30 so £90 in total.

The retentions guy told me to wait and I will get it free soon enough as they want people on docsis 3.

You may well be waiting a long while as 2Mb, 10Mb and 20Mb will continue to exist on Docsis 1/2 for a very long time as Virginmedia never close a tier, we still have people on 512kb and 1Mb so as the agent you spoke to does not actually deal with broadband he will be talking out of his rear end.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

Cant beleive VM.
Spent ages on the phone talking to customer services and sales team.
I have 20mb broadband, tvxl and phone.
For me to upgrade from 20mb to 30mb, I have to pay a one off £30, then an extra £10 a month due to my loyalty discount.

How can they call that a free upgrade?

You have a discount which the system will not allow on this upgrade, you will find many people in this thread with the same issue, if you want 30Mb then you have to lose the discount.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

The only thing I managed to get offered was a one off £15 credit against the swap, so an actual cost to change for the next year of £75 more.
I want to do the deal but dont want to pay more.
when is the tivo box due, I may wait to do a combo deal.

The top blue light is for Docsis 3. The bottom one is for wireless and may turn blue if 5ghz is enabled but is green on mine as "g" is good enough for the laptop (22.5megs down\ 3megs up) especially as I do not use it.

The difference between Gigabit and lesser ethernet speeds is that the port light for Gigabit is green and the lower ones, amber. They are the trans\rec lights.
