Virgins £30 one-off for only 'up to' 10 Mb more
What a con , you may have been with Virgin since it was Cable& Wireless or Diamond (as I have) but Virgins still asking for a one-off fee for their claimed £75 value router , which you then own, but cant use for any other service but Virgin ! they say you then get instead of 'up to 20Mb' - 'up to 30Mb' so presumably in a poor area like SW Leics you, in all reality, get instead of 16Mb perhaps 26Mb , uw they do throw in a basic V Box (TV) - but here again minimal = 'M' channels so the only real advantage over FreeView (not in full service in many areas yet anyway) is the TV player.
Come on Virgin dont be so tight a**ed - give us long standing customers a fair deal for once.

Re: Virgins £30 one-off for only 'up to' 10 Mb more
You dont own the router, its a combined modem/router and still the property of VM. Its also a Docsis 3/0 compliant device making it useless on any other providers network seen as Virgin (barring Smallworld) are the only CableCo in the UK.
If there are speed/capacity issues in your area then the speed lift will help address this as more capacity is put on place.
Oh and welcome to CF...

Are you really moaning about paying a small one off charge of £30 to give you 50% extra speed and a new modem/router? Also once enabled you will get a much faster upload speed, for the same monthly amount.
That to me sounds like a fair deal.

Can't believe some people, pay £30 as a one-off to get uplift from 20 to 30MB, a no brainer to me.

£30 for existing customers, but free to new customers, usual VM Loyalty kicks in again. Also they are hiking VIP Charges by more then 10%, almost 3 times the rate of inflation. Would think about moving to BT but can only get 4mb broadband at moment until Infinity arrives, so that rules SKY out as well.
Clearly VM are trying to screw existing customers for more money to pay for the discounts to new ones.

They aren't trying to screw anyone.
The £30 is for exsting customers that need to get a superhub installed.
Where as new customers get that as standard now.

Some peoples expectations are totally unreal on here. £30 for a 50% speed uplift and new router. Bargain.

How dare Virgin Media try and charge customers a small one off fee and give them more, I am leaving them now and going to Sky

Re: Virgins £30 one-off for only 'up to' 10 Mb more
We already have a well-established and lively thread discussing all aspects of the 20Mb > 30Mb uplift. Can we please keep all discussion in there and not be starting new threads about it.
It is here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...iscussion.html ... and I have updated its title to make it extra clear.
This thread now closed.
