Keep us updated pabs.

ASFAIK only IP flood detection needs turning off though others have reported turning off the SPI firewall completely has a beneficial effect.

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

if using NAT (which 99% people will be) both can be turned off safely and best to for least chance of problems.

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

Had a funny issue before, wireless on the hub decided to absolutely crawl while the wired connections were fine. Reboot sorted it, but I thought it was interference from another network at first (I've seen the same symptoms when a video-sender was turned on).

The hub could do with a reset button in the config pages, its in the attic!

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

Hi

im on 20mb for some time now
still only have a modem supplied by virgin
on this before virgin gave out wireless routers

looking to get it upgraded to 30mb
and get the super hub

currently the modem is in my room
network cabled to a wireless router in the hallway
which a few PC connects to (all cable)

just want to know if virgin will be willing to send me a longer (coax?) cable (like 10-20m)
so all the network cable doesnt have to go into my room

also is there anyway for virgin to waiver off the £30??
like agreeing to contract to another 12months?

sorry if these questions is asked in this thread before
but 37pages is going take ages to read through
and didnt want to make another thread

You will have another 12 month contract. Other issues will be resolved. You will still have to pay £30

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

You may be able to get the £30 waived if you haggle a bit. Or, if you downgrade to 10mb/disconnect then get 30mb you don't pay activation charges.

The superhub install kit comes with a big pile of coax I believe.

Well so far so good, wireless strength isnt quite as good as my trusty WRT610N, but fine for around the house (not tried it in the garden yet), Not had any drop outs at all, web pages snap up nice and quick.

Speedtest's are returning between 20 to 30 Mbps, on my wireless G and N laptops, tried a few games on my PS3 and it seems pretty good to be fair and the superhub opened the correct ports via upnp no probs.

The wireless channel selection I've left to auto negotiate but a quick sniff shows a neighbour also on the same channel as me (6), so I might change that manually, but all told so far its a thumbs up.

Oh and ping and jitter seem exactly the same but checking the power levels etc shows the SNR is much improved (was 38 now 43) which I find surprising.

Any existing broadband customer upgrading to 30Mbit has to pay the £30, unless they've already got the SuperHub (or a VMNG300 modem)

Hrmph. If we knew this a month ago we should have told everyone to upgrade to 20mb then (free) get superhub (free) then wait for 30mb (free). New customers still pay less

I find it hard to believe you, many staffs don't have to pay any activation fee and get cheaper broadband, phone and tv because they work better discounts as a virgin media staffs only. I know one virgin staff who live across the road, he get free broadband (50 meg) for as long as he work for virgin media and he doesn't pay any penny.

All virgin staffs are only saying this (to protect themselves) as they don't want to tell customers of how much they pay or activation fee for all staffs. I know they all get it free as long they are in the job with VM.

They earn £21,000 to £28,000 a year salary for virgin media techical and installation.
