I use VirtualCloneDrive - simple but effective for mounting ISOs!

Re: ISO Image extraction tool

Bit late now but ExtractNow will extract most files, just for future reference

Visual studio installs a lot faster from HDD than it does from DVD.

Re: ISO Image extraction tool

On the other hand it's a lot faster to mount the image, and really not fast at all to have to extract it first.

True, but I wasn't arguing for or against any method of installing from HDD.

Although having said that, on a 3GHz machine running 64 bit Windows Server 2003, 7Zip extracts Visual Studio in about 5 minutes.

Re: ISO Image extraction tool

It's not just extraction time as there may be other issues with some disks..

An extracted folder v mounted folder takes up more time, takes up 50%+ more disk space and will not have a crucial disk label needed by some software

Re: ISO Image extraction tool

I use Winrar or Isobuster to extract them.

Both are free trial's but if they do the job and do it well enough then you might as well pay for them as they are not that expensive really.

I use to use Deoman tool's as well until it started playing up for me, now if something uses 2 disk's then I will just burn them to a DVD-RW and then, erase them after I have done what is needed.

Some software. Not Visual Studio, which is actually designed for network installation from a server, so will install from anywhere as long as the folder structure is correct.

Re: ISO Image extraction tool

It was a good answer. I have to admit, I wasn't advocating either method over the other. Both have advantages.
