Anyone have a DIR-615 and encountered DHCP problems?

Hi,

Virgin installed my 50Mb service recently, and this consists of a flash Ambit modem plus a DIR-615 DLink Router/WirelessAP.

I've noticed devices dropping off the network, but after further analysis I've found that the DHCP service on the DIR-615 simply stops working (along with the syslog service). Network traffic is unaffected as I keep a machine with a static address around. What I see is:
1. No further syslog entries (or messages to the syslog server)
2. Unanswered DHCP_DISCOVER and DHCP_REQUEST messages.

The workaround is to either reboot the router at which point everything works again... for a while, or go fully static (which is a pain).

The DIR-615 is firmware 1.00VG on D4 revision hardware; I can't get support from D-Link as Virgin provided the modem but there doesn't seem to be a newer firmware release...

Anyone else seen this problem?

Regards, AndyH.

I have no problem with the D-Link-with DD-WRT firmware.

I do have occasional problems with DHCP ceasing to respond even with dd-wrt.

But on the whole, dd-wrt is likely to work better than the stock firmware.

no lan side DHCP problems however when I was using the pc mac cloning feature I used to get booted of the net on every dhcp renewal.

Re: Anyone have a DIR-615 and encountered DHCP problems?

Yes I've deferred moving to DD-WRT as I've been unable to find a genuine D4 1.00 firmware file with which to deduce the correct hardware ID (from the end of it) so I can match it in the dd-wrt firmware file... DLink don't seem to have issued an update (or the original)....

Re: Anyone have a DIR-615 and encountered DHCP problems?

You don't need to deduce the hardware ID or to match the dd-wrt firmware file.

All routers of the same revision are the same. The firmware for all D revisions is also the same.

Re: Anyone have a DIR-615 and encountered DHCP problems?

Just to close this thread....

All the information above was 100% correct - thanks guys. All I needed to to to ditch the DLINK code was...
1. Reset the DIR-615 to factory settings
2. Using the DIR-615's own firmware update, update to dlink-dir615d-factory.webflash.bin

No more flaky DHCP and a whole host of other great features....
