Re: Poor Picture Quality on ITV3

Thought I would update this as I raised the original problem.

Watched ITV3 last night ( Saturday ). The pixalation problem is totally random. The picture can be reasonable for a while & then pixalates for a few seconds. This happens on both the program & the adverts, so I don't think we can blame old programs for this one. Checked the same station through the Freeview built into the telly & that was fine.

I am tempted to get an engineer out but I'm not sure what he can do about it as I am not having the problem on other channels.

We've not noticed anything at VM, so I think a call to Support is required. Pixallation on 1 channel can be a National, Regional, box type or a poor signal level affecting that particular group of channels on your connection.

I'm not in work at the moment, so can't check the transport stream it's on. Other channels may be affected, but you may not watch them and they may be on the same transport stream.

Re: Poor Picture Quality on ITV3

These are the other channels on that transport stream, so I would expect all these to be affected.

ITV3 +1
ESPN
ESPN America
ESPN Classic
Racing UK
LFCTV
euronews
Nick Jr 2
Best Direct

It does seem likely to be a signal fault. Check the cable connections are tightened properly. If that doesn't fix it, get on the phone.

Re: Poor Picture Quality on ITV3

I noticed this problem on ITV3 this morning too. Very poor picture, pixellation occurring very regularly.
I noticed a little pixellation on BBC One HD on Friday night too. Plus the VOD I have watched so far has been appalling quality (mostly music videos).

Only just switched from SkyHD, so not the most impressive of starts. Overall, I have to say most of the channels appear poorer quality than they did on SkyHD.

They shouldn't be like that, OLDGOLD. I would suggest a call to Support.

Re: Poor Picture Quality on all except HD

I'm beginning to wonder if my v+ box is dodgy. Picture on most channels is pixellated. For example, recorded Sky at Night off BBC4 on Tuesday and the recording is very grainy, way worse than off the iPlayer. Def is V+ box as a freeze frame shows the grain/pixellating. On the other hand HD content is fine. Maybe Virgin downgraded their bit rates?

Any ideas?

46" Samsung 1080i, v+ HMDI set as 1080.

I have a 46" TV too and I have to say regarding PQ that BBC Four is consistently one of the better SD channels in my opinion.

I have several BBC Four recordings too and they also seem fine.

Re: Poor Picture Quality on ITV3

The only channel I've noticed a poor blocky picture on is ITV2+1, mainly because this is all I use for the couple of hours I watch TV a day.

Its fine on my Sky+ and freeview, so it must be an issue with my SA V+ box or possibly a transport stream issue, given my levels are fine.
