Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

Does turn off the firewall in the hub will help with no packet loss ? I thought turn off firewall will increase high risk of hacker get into the modem ? Will VM get a latest firmware version to fixed the firewall enabled with packet loss issues ?

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

Turning off the firewall will not place your PC at risk and will fix the packet loss problem.

There isn't a firmwarwe release to fix the problem yet.

Just to ask how are people measuring packet loss?

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

That's down to the 'IP Flood Detection' option only. You don't need to disable all the firewall features

IP Flood detection off:

Wow your English is pretty bad.

No it will not put you at risk of a hacker, and you should see a reduction in packet loss. Try it and then do the pingtest again and see if it helps.

Also VM will be bringing out a new firmware for the superhub eventually to help with the issue. The hub has recently had a similar update I believe.

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

I don't see any packet loss or issues keeping the IP flood detection turned on. Maybe I am not testing correctly? I just went to pingtest like above.

Which would point the finger at the firewall rather than IP flood detection.

As I don't have a superhub I am not in a position to test. I can only go by anecdotal evidence.

Sorry, have to slightly disagree here, turning off the firewall may place your PC at risk, particularly if you do not have a personal firewall on the PC's connected to the network.

Not really as you will still be behind a NAT.

I said may, being NAT'd is not a guarantee in itself that you will be better protected with the firewall off on the Superhaub, the same goes for firewalls on other routers also.

After all, if the Superhub manufacturer has ABSOLUTE confidence in its NAT'ing, then it wouldn't also include a firewall.

Again, I stress the word "may" here.

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

I didn't say anyone would be better protected with the superhub firewall off.

IMHO and that of others much more qualified than myself, he would not be any worse off.

I had to give HAT OFF to BenMcr as he is 100% right as here is my result of my superhub activated today and I had leave the firewall enabled ON, and the IP Flood Detection Enabled:

now the IP Flood Detection Disabled:

So, it nothing to do with the firewall. The IP Flood Detection can be found on the superhub stat page on the services on the left side. Hope this help to other who had packet loss problem with new superhub.
