Virgin Media is top of the box this Christmas
Get set for some Christmas crackers with Virgin Media TV On Demand
Virgin Media today announced a wide range of festive treats this Christmas through its TV on Demand line-up, featuring a month packed with must-see series, movies, music and kids shows. The launch of Demand Five in November makes Virgin Media the only on demand platform to carry catch-up for the full set of terrestrial channels, so there’ll be no excuse for missing the finals of The X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing, The Doctor Who Christmas Specials, or even the latest episode of Neighbours.
December highlights for TV Choice on Demand include the entire first seasons of popular U.S series 30 Rock, Heroes, House, The Office U.S and Lipstick Jungle as Virgin Media launches its all-new ‘US Box Sets’ collection. For the best comedy this Christmas, customers can catch-up on the first three seasons of The Big Bang Theory from WarnerTV, as well as every single episode ever of The Inbetweeners from 4oD.
Virgin Media Movies On Demand has some extra special HD and 3D blockbusters this Christmas including Christopher Nolan’s mind blowing Inception andthe third instalment of The Twilight Saga, Eclipse:both available the same day as their DVD release. Everyone’s favourite band of anarchical heroes The A-Team make an appearance late in the month, and there’s plenty more action as Tom Cruise teams up with Cameron Diaz in Knight and Day.
For those lucky enough to find a shiny new 3D TV under the tree, we’ve got a dance extravaganza in store as Step Up 3D joins Streetdance 3D on the 12th. And if you’re looking for something a little more festive Disney’s A Christmas Carol 3D will be available all month long. As an added Christmas bonus, from December 13th, we’re also doubling the value for our FilmFlex customers – customers will now have 48hrs instead of 24hrs to watch their favourite films.
Virgin Media’s Big Movie Weekend is also back from the 31st December to the 3rd January, giving customers the chance to see in the New Year with a host of this year’s biggest movies and a great value night in. For anyone fed-up of turkey leftovers, ordering a movie over this period from the ‘Big Movie Weekend’ folder in Movies on Demand will earn a 25% discount from a favourite takeaway through http://www.just-eat.co.uk*/. With a ‘Best of 2010’ theme, films to choose from include Inception, Sex and the City 2 and The Karate Kid.
Music fans will be able to indulge in a Rihanna Takeover in Music On Demand this month, where she talks about her new album, Loud, including her collaboration with Drake. Virgin Media has also lined up some Christmas classics from Bing Crosby to Wham! to watch in the ‘Christmas Crackers’ folder, and for families who would like to sing along to their favourites this festive season, the ‘Xmas Karaoke’ folder has everything from ‘All I Want For Christmas is You’ to ‘Frosty the Snowman’: all available throughout December.
The festive season wouldn’t be the same without classic Christmas comedy specials so Virgin Media has lined up a full festive feast of episodes in a new ‘Ultimate Christmas’ collection featuring Father Ted, Catherine Tate, Little Britain and Friends, as well as many more classics. And for families looking to occupy the kids there’s the ‘Ultimate Kids Christmas’ collection to spoil them as Virgin Media presents an enormous collection of old and new episodes from shows such as Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Garfield and Dr Seuss’: How the Grinch Sold Christmas.
Aleks Habdank, director of On Demand Television and Strategy at Virgin Media said: “Christmas is a great time of year for TV on demand, making it easy to enjoy the festivities, without the worry of missing out on great Christmas TV. With so much content available at the touch of a butting, there’s never been a better time to get all the family and friends together and with a stunning line-up of HD and 3D movies on demand to complement the great Christmas TV schedule, there’ll always be something for everyone.”
This month’s highlights on Virgin Media On Demand include:
Movies on Demand from FilmFlex:
Inception HD – from the 6th December same day as DVD
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse HD – from the 6th December same day as DVD
The A-Team HD – from the 27th December

If so BBC Alba is available FTA.

If not, you can watch BBC Alba on iplayer live on your computer.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/bbc_alba/watchlive
I do have an Sky Box and when BBC ALBA do launch on Virgin I will undo my old Sky (I only watch it when SPL Game is on).

Also you only get SPL Highlights on the Iplayer on Virgin Media Catch - up or the web site.

Very disappointed with ESPN, they have shown no commitment to Boxing in the UK and looks unlikely now that an ESPN 2 will launch if they are giving away rights that they own for up 2 years. If an ESPN 2 was launching they would have saved rights for that to enhance content on the channel.

Would like to have Premier Sports on VM for the Boxing and Copa Sudamericana coverage they have which are ignored by Sky and ESPN.

Seems that people on content team at VM make decisions based on their personal opinions rather than what viewers want... could list of a bunch of channels that they dont carry that many people want but refuse to carry.

This is a pay channel and unless was gonna made free on XL I cant see what the issue would be carrying it... MUTV has only 60k subs and I would love to how many of them on VM... very few I bet!

Yep I agree, gutted about that. Shown no commitment to Boxing in UK yet would rather force feed us American college sports, MLB & NHL which nobody really cares about. Much bigger fanbase for Boxing in UK than those sports put together. Sky get great figures for Boxing and so did Setanta... I dont get why they keep ignoring the sport.

Reckon an ESPN 2 isnt coming now as if there was they would never hand over the rights for something they own to a competitor for 2 years!

This is from the Premier Sports website:

"Premier Sports TV is the new home of boxing in the UK. Starting in January we have 28 Friday Night Fight events live from America and the World Series of Boxing. Combined with monthly shows from HBO and independent promoters we can supply 50+ fights per year for only £6.99 per month."

That's way more shows than SKY Sports offer in a year.

No I didn't but so what? It's still not the term commonly used in the UK to describe football. The poster may be American but this is a UK board discussing UK media services. Therefore I feel justified to bang on about the annoying term of 'soccer' .

Isn't it a term used in the UK? - Who says?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Associa...ball#Etymology

Feel 'justified' if you like, but I will quite happily accept either term to describe the game.

Yeah, they are having trouble with this. it takes 8-10 hours to download the content to your RHE. While they do this, they can't update Catch-up TV or any other On Demand to your area.

Work has to be done out of hours to resolve it. It should have been done today, but was postponed from what I can gather (not in work, but spoke to a colleague).

I'll get the reference for you in a sec....

EDIT: reference is 1454852
