It's not edited, the test may not be 'clean' but it is a genuine test - it's http://www.speedtest.net/result/1026944663.png

Odd. You claim to have left Virgin Media and moved to Zen.

Interesting. You claimed that 45GBP/month is too much for standalone 100Mbit and had no interest in that or 50Mbit, this before throttling became apparent.

Re: Traffic Management Policy
Not sure if this has been asked before or not, so apologies if it has, but what would people feel would be a more acceptable amount of throttling?
25%? 33%? 40%? etc
I still think 25-33% would be more than acceptable, as it wouldn't hurt the customer and would still benefit others during peak times.
What do others think?

On testing just then, at the moment I'm getting 4MB/s scp-ing from my hosted machine in france, and 5069.2 kB/s ftping. Although that is through a vpn to it.
So far I haven't noticed a lot of difference.

I for one do not trust a single word that poster posts to be honest. If you look at the history of posts here and on other forums he changes the post to fit the readership.

We had 50M installed yesterday and speedtest.net gives full reading up and down. For download test I go to mirrors.virginmedia.com and find a Linux distro. That too was hitting near 50Mb.

Re: Traffic Management Policy
I did NOT edit this speed test. Here is my genuine proof here: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedt...317857657.html
I had switch to Zen internet as a backup ADSL and will quit VM.

It would affect ping time surely? I think this kind of sniping is not productive, and reflects on all parties.

Over what? I think all this traffic management talk, for 50Mb anyway, is a load of hearsay. Until I have evidence that it is affecting my connection then I will not believe it.

If you're still sitting on a trial connection it may well not be affecting you, doesn't change that application management is a reality for all non-trial customers and upload STM is being rolled out to 50M customers when they receive the increased upload.
You can believe it or not the choice is yours, you are not on a production connection at the moment, all production connections are being application managed. When you are returned to the production network you'll have the pleasure of the management too!
Your 200M connection is running on a separate interface from the production 50M customers in your area. Yours is fine as it's trial, theirs are managed.
Hard to be upset with VM when they are giving you an unshaped, unlimited, unmanaged 200M/50M connection for nothing

I frequently reconnect my 50Mb modem, just to see if we have had the 5Mb upload upgrade yet and have run games, usenet and torrents through it in the evenings. I have not seen any deterioration in service.
The 200Mb, as you say, is on a completely different circuit from the head end to avoid interference with the 50Mb service. The 50Mb service is the same as everybody else.
The STM being applied with the 5Mb upload roll out is a different matter. This is announced and above board. It does not represent a deterioration in service from the current position even for heavy uploaders.

Evidently it isn't. If it were you'd be seeing the effects of the shaping.
It applies to all tiers, 50M included, the shaping has no idea what tier of service customers are on. I am unsure why you are apparently not affected. Maybe a Coventry special due to you being on a trial node.

Ignition I got told it was going to be turned of (discretely) temporarily as a result of complaints on my port, I wonder if this is also going to be done in other areas to see how user feedback changes.
