If I'm correct it's the same guy who helped me on another forum..I followed his advice and hey presto..got what I needed.
Basically I think if you are paying for a VIP package you should have 2 boxes capable of outputting in HD.. one will recieve all the premium HD channels..the other just the basic HD channels.
Correct me if I'm wrong Ben

I think that it is only on the VIP50 that one box will receive HD premium channels. I believe that does not apply to VIP20?

Yup, only VIP50 gets Sky HD Premiums included within the bundle
VIP 20 customers will get 'basic' HD on both boxes by default, and would have to request the HD bolt on (at which time they might as well upgrade to VIP 50 anyway)

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package
'I want to upgrade to VIP 50' would probably be a good start
As for costs, you will probably have to pay £20 for the 50Mbit activation, but you may be able to get the installation free
The monthly cost will be £96.50, so take away whatever you are paying now and that will be the monthly difference

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package
thanks,y
just another quick question, will i have to ask for the hd channels, or will they automatically put it on my v+ box.
Also when they install the new modem, do you have to use their router or can i use my current one?

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package
You should get asked which box you want the Sky Premium HD channels on, but they may just put it on the V+ HD box automatically
You can use whatever router you wish, but I would make sure it's going to be ok for 50Mbit

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package
Use their router - you can always change it over after the installer leaves, as long as (as has been said) your current router will handle 50Mb, i.e. is an "N" router.
As for the channels, the installer had to make a call (twice) whilst at my home to get this working, but it only took a couple of minutes and all was good.
Have a PC ready and booted up in the room where the modem and router are to be installed as there are some thing he/she will need to do to activate and test the system - also make sure you get the wireless USB key as you are entitled to it (I don't need it, at the moment, but may do in the future so made sure i got it.
Incidentally, you might like to be aware that if your connection at home to your computer/s if like mine, a wired connection, then you can and likely will get 50Mb speeds. If however, you use a wireless connection, then expect speeds of around 30Mb, still good, but not AS good.....

Not true. The engineers are supposed to get one PC hooked up appropriately to the connection and leave the customer sitting at the activation screen

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package
BenMcr is correct they did indeed leave me at the screen to enter some details, but most certainly DID use the computer himself to bring up the required speed and do a test download

I upgraded from VIP20 to VIP50 when it first came out. Recently I asked to have my V Box replaced with a V HD Box and was charged £20 for quickstart delivery and £49 for V HD box set up cost.
Feeling a bit miffed.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package
You certainly shouldn't have been charge the £49 activation, I would phone back and complain

They tried that with me, but I kept bringing them back to the website which describes the package and that VM insist they will treat existing customers the same as new customers, eventually insisted on a manager, who immediately agreed and booked a date for an engineer to replace the box
