Campaign builds to construct Babbage Analytical Engine

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11530905

Quote:
A UK campaign to build a truck-sized, prototype computer first envisaged in 1837 is gathering steam.
More than 1,600 people have pledged money and support to build Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine.
Although elements of the engine have been built over the last 173 years, a complete working model of the steam-powered machine has never been made.
What a weird idea..but fascinating at the same time.

this was featured on some documentary i watched a while back ,Charles Babbage didn't build it i think he died before he could if i recall ,but as the article says various people have built some of it but never all of it .It would be facinating to see the fully working machine

"Gathering steam" - so they're going to use the power source that Babbage intended?

The guy was a genius. It'd be amazing to see it working.
