VM and Licensed Premises
When i was on the committee of my local club we were looking for ways to save money. Sky charges us about £700 a month (Setanta is £100).
We enquired about changing to VM but they don't do Licensed premises, anyone know the reason why?

Re: VM and Licensed Premises
Maybe it's something to do with copyright. Who exactly did you speak to about this? Personally i would phone up again and confirm this, i think you will find with Virgin Media that you can get absolutely no where with one customer service rep and then get what you want with another.

Re: VM and Licensed Premises
Virgin do not provide business TV services. They stopped in 2006 mainly because it wasn't cost effective, and I think Sky didn't want them to undercut them on the Sports

Re: VM and Licensed Premises
Dragging up an old post of mine but is this still the case?
Sky was charging £920 last year and its now been put up to over £1200 a month!, so its being dropped in 2 weeks. The only other competition for my club is a pub over the road.
The problem was you couldn't just subscribe to sports, you had to take the whole shebang, movie channels as well.
I think the landlord is quite relieved as we understand he's dropping it as well, i guess he thought that even with the monopoly in the area it still wasn't paying for itself.
We're now looking at just getting espn through one of the freeview options.

Re: VM and Licensed Premises
ok thanks for that DF.
Do you know if anyone else in the pay tv market does licensed premises?
It'll save me looking if you know the answer straight away.
If not i guess we just wait for the european court to rule on the pub in pompey that was showing foreign satellite. Think the ruling is due next month

Re: VM and Licensed Premises
Sky Italia is still an option as the matter has not yet been decided in court:

I don't, sorry. The only other option is Top up TV, but I doubt they will do a business package.

Re: VM and Licensed Premises
This was on BBC Breakfast this morning and it's going to the European Court this week

Believe it is based on that all services and goods have free movement in the EU... but not Sky Sports!
There is a BBC Five Live special investigation at 9pm this evening

Re: VM and Licensed Premises
Well i dont know if anyone else listened to this but the most interesting bit was the streaming of online games.
They had a solictor look into it and if you watch a stream of a sky broadcast, sky sports 1 for example, then its a criminal offence. However if you watch a stream of a foreign channel, spanish for example, then its only a civil offence.
Hmmmm.....

Re: VM and Licensed Premises
It needs to be Sky provided cause they put the pint glass on screen to show that it's licensed premises if an inspector comes in

sorry dont understand the first part? what needs to be?
sky put the glass there so it proves its not a residential subscription. Dunno how they get on with clubs, the one i go to is members only and you need to show your card. The general public aren't allowed in.
