		| Retesting - All drivers would have had to retake their driving test every 5 or 10 years. After doing research on this, the DSA said there was no evidence it would raise the standard of driving on the UK's roads. This will probably come in sometime over the next few years, most people accept that passing a test once does not mean it should still be valid years later. People change, roads and rules change and it's an idea that will eventually happen one day. | I don't think so. as it is you pass a driving test if you are competent enough to go on the roads. so unless you are really bad and the experience hasn't made you any better, then I don't see the point.

unless you're over say 70?

Point of information - this item was in the "changes that didn't happen" section.

in this case. take nearly everybody off the road.
in the case of putting prices up on alcohol and petrol. everyone stop buying it. it's too expensive.

it will never happen, and it's the last thing they'd want to happen, but you wish it would.

The agency that runs driving tests will be wringing their hands in joy.... providing they can get enough examiners to do the testing. Waiting lists for new drivers are long enough, can you imagine the flap when everyone has to get retested regularly?

What's the point in starting a thread about something that's not happening and then even supplying a link that says.
"Here are just some of the changes that were going to happen which have now been scrapped."

RETESTING IS NOT GOING TO BE ONE OF THE CHANGES.
Try reading the article under The Changes that didn't happen...

If you are going to start a thread about a specific item Gary L - then please discuss the item the topic title is actually on about.

If you were discussing a topic about the 'New driving test which starts next week' then it was meant to be about the following changes:-

When I come to a thread to see what it's about I shouldn't come to it, to find it discussing something completely irrelevant.

Paying the money just for them to say you're as good if not better than a learner? or being told we're going to have to take you off the road after 20 years of driving.

Slightly off-topic, but anything to do with the DVLA seems to be an excuse to print money - my photocard licence expires in December, and it's going to cost me 20 quid to get the new one.
It's not that I object to having to renew it; just that I didn't particularly want it when I paid for it in the first place...
