Help with my V+ box.
Hi,
not posted in a while as i've been blissfully free of any major issues
however i'm wondering if anyone can help with the following.
its two things really, first is that on ALL HD channels the sound is really low. i have to crank the tv up when i swith over, is this normal?
the second and the oddest is that at sometime after midnight up to 1am my box will become VERY unresponsive, i can press all the buttons i want but its doing Nothing for at least 40-60 seconds then i'll get a burst of say 10 seconds where i can channel surf then back to the wait. i'm not sure if this is an update thing virgin run but its damned annoying when trying to find something decent on at that time or use the interactive/on demand stuff.
anyway just my niggles, if anyone has any answers it'd be much appreciated
thanks
pete

Hi,
HD channels are lower due to the 5.1 audio, this is normal (think of DVD's and how much lower they are)
The V+ has a EPG update after midnight and this can slow the box down at this time.

Re: Help with my V+ box.
It doesnt just slow it down though it makes it practically unuseable. I work Saturday nights and get back in between 12 - 1am. Having recorded the football league show I just want to fast forward through to the highlights that I am interested in, but find it near impossible to do so.
It is very annoying and seems to last for ages. Why does it take so long to do these updates and can't they be scheduled for a time when the least amount of people use the system? Whilst I don't want to assume, I would guess that this would be earlier in the morning between 4 - 5 am?

Re: Help with my V+ box.
Exactly the same probs here as the op, I've just come to expect it now although it makes watching recorded programmes a nightmare because if you fast forward past the adverts and press play when they stop, the V+ box just keep's going for ages so you then rewind and it does the same.
It gets really frustrating
I don't understand why updating the EPG renders the box almost unusable, why don't VM move it to say 4am when less people would be affected.
Just a thought

I experience the same problems too, I thought it was just me.

Re: Help with my V+ box.
Is that the Scientific Atalanta door-stop box or the newer smaller Samsung one your having problems with?
The SA's are much slower at doing anything compared to the Sammy's in my experience.
I haven't ever noticed any delay of operation at midnight on my Samsung V+ box.

Mine has served me well for over 3 years... I had the Telewest TVDrive before that, and that only got swapped out because of a faulty card reader (had that from launch!)

My original TVDrive, installed March 2006, still going strong.

It is a good box the SA and does exactly what I need it to do and it is not in the least bit sluggish and I also use a Samsung at work all day and find no real difference between the 2 boxes apart from size, plus I dislike the Samsungs lights around the central control.

Lucky you eh? I'm very happy with the SA box too, other than the very sluggish response to the remote just after midnight, and the rare, random times it fails to record a programme that I particularly wanted to see.
From the responses it seems that by my light hearted use someone else's description from these forums, of it being a doorstop has caused some of you personal offence.
The SA might be a wonderful box, but my personal take is that the Samsung looks a lot nicer, but I'm sure I can live without one.

I did not take offence as I have to work with both boxes but I do have a preference as per my post.

Doorstop! much to bulky for that
My SA hasn't failed to record something for a long time, which means it will probably do it to-day !
