Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD

Hi - I also have a sony TV and Sony Surround System and experiencing the same problem. Have tried optical from V Box (not V+) direct to amp and makes no difference. Most HD channels seem to hve the sync problem. The Sony Sytem can let you alter the Sync but still cannot match the sound with the picture. I have contacted Virgin on 151 and the guy was investigating and comming back to me Friday evening (30.07.10.) To date not heard back. Has DF continued this elsewhere on the forum?

hi all - back from hols. i see there has been a bit of traffic on this. Andy70 I am particularily interested if you get any response from the techs. It seems you have a very similar problem to me. I was watching a couple of HD programs I had recorded, Gadget Show on Five HD was out of synch, and so was Sherlock of the 1st August. Sherlock HD on catch up was fine! The One show live last night was out of synch.

I am still not convinced that there is a problem with the V+.

Good luck with your quest Andy70.

mdancer - not got anywhere with Virgin. posted the following on Virgin's own
Help & Support Forum under 'V+ HD sound sync issues?'

'I have the standard HD box and am also experiencing the problem with Lip Sync for most HD channels and esp. BBCHD, when put through surround sound system. I have A Sony Bravia with HDMI & Optical link to a Sony Blueray Surround Sound System. I have connected the optical out of the Virgin box direct into the surround sound amp but problem is still there. The amp itself has the ability to change the sync but I am still unable to match the picture with the sound. I reported the fault to a guy called Matthew in Virgin's Swansea fault team last Thursday evening ...he was going to investigate and call back the following evening...to date no call back! I have since carried out some other research on the net and it appears (I think) to be a broadcast issue and a known problem with LCD / HD technology. Other forums such as AV and cable have many threads on the issue. The BBC have even commissoned a report on the problem http://tech.ebu.ch/docs/techreview/t...dio-Delays.pdf

I understand that SKY Boxs have the ability to alter the sync, whereas the Virgin Boxs do not.

Are Virgin really looking into this problem and trying to resolve, I do not beleive they are not aware the problem exists. Have any of the other people who posted earlier on this thread had the problem resolved??? Hope to hear from someone soon'

Had a reply from someone advising 'We are looking into the problem and have been unable to re-create on a number of surround sound systems. We will continue to look into this.' Did not appear to be direct from Virgin themselves though?

Not really sure what to do next as no one at Virgin seems to admit the problem exists or claim not to know the problem exists. I am down in B'mth so has to be a nationwide problem.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD

Hi Andy70 good to hear from you. I was just about to break forum protocol and paste a link to Digital Spy forum at http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1298056 but won't do that. As you say there is a similar thread on there. It looks like a virgin team member was investigating it suggesting it may be a local issue. To be fair Digital Fanatic has been very helpful, but it seems that the main Techie team will not investigate unless they can replicate the issue. They saw it once! see earlier post. But nothing came of it.

Digital Fanatic suggested I phone 151, but your post proved my fears about that approach. Hopefully the Virgin team will start to take this issue seriously soon via the support forum.

I am begining to think that we should all stop wingeing about how many HD channels Sky has got compared with Virgin, and get the ones we have got working properly.

Hi mdancer

It might be worth you putting a post on the Virgin Forum as well...the more complaints they have the more they will have to try and sort.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD

Watched The One Show this evening - no lip sync issues at all. First time in a long time it's been okay. Maybe the temporary summer hosts of the show were being dubbed

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD

Nialli - pleased to hear your problems are resolved, long may it continue.

Maybe I am being to picky, but it really jars to watch a programme that is out of sync.

I have now added my voice to the help and support forum on virginmedia as Andy70 suggested. I would recommend those who are bothered about this problem to add theirs. It seems that Virgin Techies moderate the forum and can assist. Although there are those on this forum who have given their all to help, but they have to remain in the shadows.

We are looking in to this again... will update if we get any info. Please anyone with this issue, can you please post in the same thread as mdancer has on our community forum? The only reason I ask this is that we can get your account info there, but due to data protection, we can't here.

Thanks guys

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD

London E7 ex NTL area. V+ SA Box into AV amp optical out.

BBC HD. Sky Movies HD. Film 4 HD. Channel 5 HD(These are the channels I've noticed).

All intermittent. Changing channels and going back does not help. On recorded items as well (eg the Gadget Show from Monday I just put on the sync is so bad I think I will just not watch it and delete it).

I was being slightly facetious. It is daft that I am registered with Virgin and logged in to my media account, but I can't then go and post on the help forums (that are linked to from the my media page) without registering again. It should just ask me for a user name to associate with forum posts.

It's an open forum, anyone can access/post on them if they register.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD

Thanks DF - I watched a recorded Dexter on FXHD, and that was okay. Not had chance to watch much else as we have been away for a few days.
