HTPC to HDTV via HDMI - no picture/sound

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help as I am at a total loss!

I am not all that techy so please bear with me...

I have recently purchased a home theatre pc as below:
AWD-IT HTPC C03 Media Centre PC - Intel QUAD Core Q8400 - 4GB DDR2 - 1000GB - HDMI - 1080P
Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 HDMI 1.3 PCI-Express DTS HD Sound Card
Corsair 4GB 2 x 2GB PC8500 Dual Channel DDR2 TWIN2X4096-8500C5C 1066Mhz TwinX Memory
Edimax Wireless NIC 150Mbps PCI Network Card
LG BH10LS30 Super Multi 10x Blu Ray ReWriter DVDRW SATA Drive
Western Digital Caviar GP 2TB SATAII 64MB Cache 3.5'' Hard Disk Drive WD20EARS - OEM

I am trying to connect it to my Panasonic HDTV via the HDMI output on the pc (the Asus Xonar card has HDMI in/out and there is also a HDMI port located with the DVI, keyboard, mouse ports etc) to a HDMI port on the TV but am getting no picture/sound at all. It works fine when i connect it to a pc monitor with a 15 pin monitor cable.

If anyone could please shed any light as to why it does not work on my TV it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

What GFX is in the machine?

TBH I have no idea how the Xonar works , I think I read that it has a graphics chip of sorts but I have no idea how powerful this is

Can you connect the gfx card to the screen and the sound card at the same time? does neither input give you video?

In thoery to use the video output off the sound card you would have to set it up off the gfx card first. You would also need to change the sound settings to which output

Does the system not come with a manual?

Re: HTPC to HDTV via HDMI - no picture/sound

What I found with my Panasonic TV is that, I could connect it to any of the HDMI input's via a DVI - HDMI cable and I would get a picture but, to get sound I had to connect it to HDMI 1 and then use a cable that had a 3.5mm jack on one end and then 2 phono (Red + White) connection's on the other end, then in the sound setting's I had to change it from Digital to Analogue.

Then when I changed to my new graphic's card using the same DVI - HDMI lead, connected to HDMI 2 I got sound through my HDMI 2 connection no more messing around but, I just have to disable my speaker's for it to work.

Use the HDMI on the pc and not the sound card, put it in to HDMI 1 and if you have a lead like mentioned above 3.5mm to 2 phono connection, which has to be connected to the Red and White connection's for the Component video input.

I will post some pic's later when I get home showing where to connect thing's to.

With you saying that you have connected via VGA and it work's then I would assume that the HDMI on the sound card, is not the default display output.

Re: HTPC to HDTV via HDMI - no picture/sound

damien you are missing the point of having the Xonar. In theory he has the choice. TBH though unless it was being plugged into a HDMI enabled amp the benefits are wasted and just standard HDMI from the GFX to tv ( depending on if the gfx card has onboard HD audio chipset of course) would suit better and the Xonar disabled

We need to know what Graphics card the system has before we go any further

this bit does not make sense at all there is no white connection to componant video

this appears to be the machine and if so it has ATI 4550 which means it should transport Video and Audio down the HDMI

OP you are plugging HDMI cable into the card and not the onboard GFX?

There is no mention of Xonar in the specs??
