Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
Just tried to update to the latest version but it won't complete installation.Keep getting the same error message 1603 Fatal Error during registration
Of course the old free Comodo has been uninstalled.
Anyone got a better free alternative?

Re: Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
Thanks.
I suppose I could go back to ZAP but I let that lapse..

Re: Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
Download the latest version but leave just as a download. Then whilst offline I would remove any other trace of Comodo on your system then install the latest version.
Sometimes an update picks up a glitch which creates a false incompatibility with a previous version.

Re: Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
Sorted after a read of the Comodo forums. The silly berks have set it up so it doesn't remove all traces of V3 from the registry. so I had to read through pages of rants and confusion to get this link to a removal tool http://sites.google.com/site/comodoremovaltool/
I leave it here for anyone else facing this problem..

Re: Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
You could try the Comodo clean up tool http://forums.comodo.com/install_set...9617#msg259617
"This is a batch file for removing left-over files and registry entries. It should only be used if:
* You can't uninstall Comodo Internet Security
* You can't install Comodo Internet Security
* Comodo Internet Security is already uninstalled, and you want to make sure everything's gone"
---
Beat me to it.

Re: Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
Well Comodo is good and apart from ZA there isn't really another Firewall to match it..they just need to make sure they have a better updating tool that removes the previous version.
Seems like they have known about the problem for some time.
It made me rethink my thoughts of purchasing the Pro version.

Re: Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
Have you sorted it Maggy J?
I take it you where updating from 3.14 to 4.1 which has been an absolute joke as far as i`m concerned (even after uninstalling properly). The mods are not very happy about the situation i can tell you (we normally have to take the brunt of the ).
Anyway if you need i can get access to some tools which can help with re-installing, similar to the Batch file by Ragwing posted by Delta Whiskey allthough it`s not been released to the public forum yet.
IMO it`s worth sticking with it because when it works properly it is better than most others (Firewall and Defence+, still not sure on the sandbox)
Let me know if you need anything.....................hint................. ...hint

Re: Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
It is working but really this was a fundamental flaw that should have been dealt with before release. The fact that they had to get a removal tool from another source instead of producing one of their own wasn't a good sign.
But not to mention no warning on the downloads page that it might be better to totally uninstall the previous version totally before installing the new.
Mind I suppose for a free product I can't really complain but if it happened to those who bought a licence for the pro version I think they should raise stink.

Re: Comodo free firewall update gone wrong
Had exactly the same problem with the latest update. It uninstalled the old Commodo ok but failed to install the new one, leaving me without a firewall. Some security !
Making do with Windows firewall at the moment and tempted to keep it that way as my pc is running a lot quicker. I know Commodo offers more protection but it was far too intrusive and the constant updates were always a hassle.
