Please Help Nokia Messaging

A couple of days back I got my email about my 'new and improved' Virgin webmail. A couple of days back also, strangely enough, my Nokia Messaging email client on my phone stopped being able to connect and download emails. I have phoned Nokia who tell me to check with Virgin that the ports and servers haven't changed. I have spoken to Virgin who assure me, they haven't and it's nothing to do with what they have done. My emails are all through ntlworld.com. Does anyone else have a similar problem, it's doing my head in. I cannot believe the chap I spoke to at Virgin who insisted it was just coincidence! Thanks.

If you've been migrated, for downloading mail you need to be using SSL on Port 995 now for POP connection.

Or SSL on port 993 for IMAP connection.

Thanks for that but it’s not what Virgin told me when I called them for the third time the other day. First they said I should still be on 110 – when I pointed out to the chap that their own web page said 995 SSL he changed his mind to say that should work (that page also says the server is pop3 not pop for ntlworld) . I then pointed out that 995 SSL doesn’t work with Nokia Messaging he then changed his mind again to say I should definitely be using 110, nothing else has changed and it’s just a pure coincidence that it’s stopped working. I’ve given up with Virgin, their help people are quite ignorant, as a customer I don’t like being treated like a fool. There is no point in telling me it will work when is clearly doesn’t and as for ‘coincidence’ being the explanation, well.

I shall try Nokia once more – to be fair Nokia are not much better on the Customer Service front – then I shall stop using the new and truly awful Virgin mail system altogether.

Re: Please Help Nokia Messaging

Well I can receive mail just can't send it.

I set up the account through email.nokia.com and it was able to connect perfectly fine there (kicked up enough fuss when I put in the wrong settings). I then retrieved the settings on my E72 and all went as it should.

I'm starting to think this might actually be a Nokia issue...

It may well be a Nokia problem - caused by Virgin. I just picked up a new HTC desire and the Virgin mail problem is no better on there. I'm done with Virgin mail.

Worked out what it was...you'll need to set the outgoing mail server to that of your mobile operator - or in the case of Nokia Messaging, their SMTP server. The NTLWorld SMTP server doesn't allow connections from anything but NTL connections
