running in safe mode so much quicker
As the title really. Web pages and programmes were on a go slow but now I've ran in safe mode with networking everything seems instant. Are there any obvious things to get rid of that might be slowing things down? Things are that quick Im tempted to always surf in safe mode I'd do a full format to factory settings but it takes two days for windows updates and drivers to sort themselves out. I cant believe how quick things are now so something must be wrong somewhere

Re: running in safe mode so much quicker
Safe mode only runs a bare bones system.
It designed to get you out of the brown stuff.
So you can uninstall/disable software that may be causing problems.

Re: running in safe mode so much quicker
Go to start->run type msconfig, have a look on the startup tab and see if anything is set to run at startup that you don't recognise.
Make sure your system is clean of virus's and spyware.
Download and run hijack this, post the log here: http://hjt.networktechs.com/

Re: running in safe mode so much quicker
your only running basic services that's why your system is running quicker ,i think i am right in saying that you won't have any security software running either so be carefull or you won't have an option but to clean install

If you continue the may be tears before bedtime as that is not recommended for long term use, inadvertently clicking the wrong link could cause some very serious issues.
I could post the Digital Home Support number for you.

Re: running in safe mode so much quicker
It really *should not* be quicker. This points to some damage with your Windows installation. Guessing from your comment about the time to download patches, are you using XP? If so, how long since you last did a clean install. If safe mode runs so much faster I'd say you are overdue for a fresh install.

Re: running in safe mode so much quicker
G,day Speedy, have you tried running the free VM tune up utility, I ran this on the wife's laptop and it did the biz so it might work for you.
I'm not sure how to direct you to it, Masque had a link on one of his informative post,s and I just clicked it and let it run its course.
Funny thing is that's the best test result I've ever seen you post, with very low Ping/Jitter considering its peak time.

Re: running in safe mode so much quicker
When you say safe mode, do you mean windows safe mode or internet explorer safe mode.

Re: running in safe mode so much quicker
Original post says "safe mode with networking", that would suggest windows safe mode
