I like facebook. There is an easy way to avoid drunken comments on FB. Dont post on it drunk. I don't. I don't come on here drunk either (wouldn't be very professional, what with me being a mod and all, I might be tempted to use my mod powers which would not be good).

I am aware of the potential problems of posting on facebook. A friend of mine was angry once, and posted a comment to the effect that his boss was a very rude word beginning with F and ending with Wit. Trouble is, he forgot that his boss's wife was a facebook friend of his, so got called in to see the boss the next day and explain himself. That's not say the boss's wife would have said anything. I don't think she would (I've known her for years). Someone did, however.

The moral of the story is you can use these sites quite safely, as long as you are careful what you post, and with any security settings offered by the site.

Indeed, in my case, Facebook is actually quite handy.

Thing is though (and not wanting to go too off topic) depending on how much you have had to drink just saying dont post when you're drunk doesnt always work. Im just glad Im a happy drunk and not an abusive one. I try to keep off forums when I know Ive had too much but it still happens. Good on you for keeping control, like you say, it wouldnt be too good if a mod starts posting drunken nonsense or randomly banning people I've always thought that mods musn't drink that much because too much means all self control out the window

Maybe I just dont have enough friends to warrant a facebook account I still think its risky though, but Im dieing to know about this farm game thing that people harp on about, I might set up a false account, Id be happy doing that but not my real name for all to see

Sorry, but if you get sacked for posting something daft whilst being drunk, that's your fault, not Facebook's

I actually like Facebook, apart the odd timewarp glitches. Just ensure that your privacy settings are done correctly.

My point was that the fear of being sacked due to being drunk isn't a reason to not to use Facebook

There are simple ways to test that Facebook is as private as you need it.
First is obviously stop posting stuff that you wish to be private if you have 'friends' that aren't among those that you wish to know your private stuff.
Secondly, create a second FB account and do a search for yourself. If you're even findable at all then check what can be seen by someone who's not on your friends list and amend if necessary. Simple.
The main problem with Facebook & privacy is that people don't know how to (or are too lazy to) look into how to make things private. It's all there if you look for it.

In case you don't know... As of today,there's a NEW PRIVACY setting called"Instant Personalization" it sharesyour data with Non-Facebook websites & it is automatically set to"Allow." Go to Account >Privacy Settings > Applications andWebsites > InstantPersonalization > Edit Settings, & uncheck"Allow". BTW if your friends don't do this, they will be sharing infoabout you.
