Virgin Media TV - no plans for the sale of VM TV or its 50% ownership of UKTV, in fact VM are looking to grow with HD conversion of some of these channels.

Living HD/Sky1 HD - DONE DEAL - a pure swap deal fully expecting some kind of press release in the coming weeks.

Sky HD Pack - VM&Sky have already started to broker a deal for these channels - note these are for Sky's 100% HD channels - Not Joint Ownership HD channels i.e. MGM, Bio etc etc and ?s around the Five HD deal.

Don’t read too much into if the Tories win - The fact that Ofcom has issued the report means neither Labour or the Tories can overturn this ruling, the ruling can only be overturned if Sky take this through the European courts and win.

If the Tories do win and strip all power from Ofcom then that does not mean they can overturn all previous Ofcom rulings made.

The Sky HD pack is expected before the summer

I'm not going to get involved in replying to each post quoting the above - the fact I have a very close and trusted friend within VM.

I will post more if and when I get any other information.

As quoted week or so ago things are now starting to fall in place.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

It depends on the program Always check to see if it is HD or not by pressing 'i'
e.g. ITV1 HD shows either [HD] or [Remastered HD] which is upscaled. If no [HD] tag is shown, then it's SD

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Decided to email Neil Berkett regarding TiVo, here is the email correspondence:

From:
To: Berkett, Neil
Sent: Thu Apr 29 20:56:22 2010
Subject: Virgin Digital TV Service and TiVo

Dear Mr Berkett

I am a long standing NTL/Virgin Media customer and would like to start by saying the service is fantastic. Great and reliable broadband and TV service, I am a regular user of video on demand.

It is on the subject of Virgin's digital TV I'd like to ask a question. From various internet sources I understand Virgin have entered into a deal with TiVo to develop a new user interface (UI) for it's next generation TV service. I understand this service will launch later this year. I know that you won't be able go give many details on the deal, but I do have one question. I currently have two standard V boxes and a V+HD box (both Samsung branded) and would like to know if the new TiVo software will be available on these or if new hardware will be released to run this? Various articles and forums on the internet seem to be suggesting new hardware and that Virgin's current set top boxes will not run this new software. Would it be possible to confirm if the new TiVo software will be available at all on any of the current set top boxes or if it will only be available on yet unreleased hardware?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Hi

Our current V+ boxes will not support TiVo but our new V HD boxes will.

Hello

Thanks for your very quick reply. Will the current V+/V boxes have any access to next gen TV?

Thanks

We will continue to upgrade our UI on current generation but they will not support TiVo

I notice the Arizona v Cubs MLB on at the moment on ESPN America, is from an HD feed, according to the occasional banner at the bottom of the screen

I got the latest issue of 'electric' today. It normally goes straight into recycling but this issue claimed to be in 'HD'. Sadly it also failed to mention that the new HD channels are only available to some Virgin customers.

It also claimed that all programming on Discovery, Sci-Fi, E4, ITV1 etc was also available in HD. Really? So putting aside the fact that many Virgin customers don't even get the new HD channels, you're now claiming an upscale is HD?

Virgin's PR BS machine still working overtime.

Can't say I do. What was it? I've Googled but can only find foreign radio stations and taxi companies.

Yep, remember this. Quite liked it when it was on the old analogue satellite Astra 1a, I think. I seem to recall though, that it was broadcast from Luxembourg or some place like that and it was a foreign owned station, despite the Sky moniker.

If it still exists, I doubt it will ever come to cable.

So do you think a new V+ box will be launched to replace the existing ones ? I hope so because i'd like one with a bigger hard drive that can flick through the menus and change channels quicker.
