Re: The 2010 General Election Thread: Week 4

WHY, WHY won't they talk properly about immigration, Cameron is talking crap, and so is Clegg, Cameron is saying we should talk about cutting it to 10.000 instead of 100.000 and Clegg is saying an amesty for illegals.

Let me say one thing, this country is FULL and cannot take anymore, we have to shut the door, other countries do this, IF you don't have a job, you cannot come here, So far this country now has a variety of immigrants, most of them are claiming all types of benefit, and most of them end up in crime to feed there habits etc.

I have a relative who lives on the borders of Southall, and he is petrified to go out at night due to various gangs, and the large majority of them are immigrants, it is about time this country say's enough is enough. shut the door.

Oh, Arthur - it's so unusual for you to post about immigrants.

What brought this on......

Re: The 2010 General Election Thread: Week 4

Cameron has undoubtedly done a lot better than in either of the other debates, however Clegg is still successfully putting himself above the ding-dong that Cameron and Brown have both slipped into on a number of occasions tonight.

And I say this as someone who really, really *wants* Cameron to come out of this smelling of roses.

Quite. As in the first debate, Brown and Cameron keep slagging each other off, and Clegg confidently maneuvers himself in a position where he looks fresh, with novel ideas, and constructive. That last word doesn't seem to feature anywhere in the Tory and Labour dictionaries.

To be honest I think Gordon Brown's entire strategy this evening has been to try and drag David Cameron down. He is on a damage control exercise now, his only thoughts are to try and minimise the number of seats the Conservatives get and try his luck on a hung parliament.

It's a cynical strategy but a strong one in that Cameron can't excel as he has to constantly fend off the snipes. The only thing he should perhaps do is stop counter-attacking.

Overall a much better performance from him, Clegg has been reasonable though helped a great deal by Brown's strategy, Brown has been nervous and weak and frankly looks like he popped some interesting substances before he went on stage.

That would be the same ding-dong that Clegg was trying with Cameron, 10 minutes ago when he was asking Cameron about the cap on immigration. It's okay for him to slate Brown and Cameron for having a good old ding-dong - but he has been doing it as well tonight.

Re: The 2010 General Election Thread: Week 4

Mrs T came into the room, took one look at him and asked if he'd been crying before coming on stage. He has a very odd look in his eyes (and not for the obvious reason).

True - and yet I think Clegg still manages to make it look like engaging with the issue rather than another case of 'there they go again' ... a line he used with good effect more than once, early on in the debate.

I still say, I really want Cameron to come out of this on top. I really want Labour to crash and burn. But I have to admit, Clegg is looking very strong right now.

I think he was asking him to be clear, rather than outright attacking him (which comes across a lot better).
