12 Year Old Spends £900....

On Facebooks Farmville

Quote:
Facebook's most popular game, Farmville, turned to Farm Vile as a 12-year old child spent nearly £300 of his own savings to purchase the game's own virtual currency before using his mother's credit card to add another £600 worth of expenses.

There should be some kind of parental control on facebook.

Re: 12 Year Old Spends £900....

For starters there should be parental control on their own credit card.

BTW, Facebooks terms clearly prohibit anyone under 13 from joining.

More like it should be banned for there to be cash add ons for crappy flash games on Facebook and just an optional donate button if they must to help the game developers. It's just stupid! Also, he's 12, I'm sure you have to be 13 to have Facebook.

Re: 12 Year Old Spends £900....

they lie someone I know has made a page for their year old dog and put 1996 DOB. There is no real age checks and I dunno how there could be. Mind you how does a 12 year old have savings that can be spent online I know they are to young for a debit/credit card aint they?

I find it very hard to rustle up any sympathy at all for the mother

it just seems crazy to me someone so young will get access to the funds that easily. Bethia has a bank card but I keep it safe there is no way I would allow her to have a debit card at 13 its asking for trouble. Just seems nuts

Re: 12 Year Old Spends £900....

There is nothing wrong with having a bank account and debit card at 11 - all my kids had one. It called learning about the real world. I know plenty of adults who are far more irresponsible with their bank accounts and cards. Like the mother above who obviously let her kid get access to hers.

Re: 12 Year Old Spends £900....

But if you are going to let your kid have a debit card at that age then the parent should provide limited access to it and only allow the child to use it when they want something, if the parent feels it is a correct purchase, not some silly spending on a Facebook game. The parent in this case obviously can't keep their own card safe. It's ridiculous. I am also completely against the whole idea of paying for 'additional features' on Facebook games, it's just ridiculous!

Re: 12 Year Old Spends £900....

Kids who have debit cards cant go into debt, In this case blame the mother for leaving it about, she also should hide her cash if her kids are stealing
And not let minors on facebook
