Engineer totally Confused.

Hi Steph and friends,

Today morning engineer came to my property, i explained him about my outside cable end & requested him to put a seal box,

The funny part is he said me that he is from service team and his job is to deal with the broadband service issues, and he wanted me to ring the installation team regarding my cable issue.
Totally i am not happy with his respond. Later he came to my room with a special pocket pc and he checked the signals.

in my modem end cable during my fist installation they fixed one FLD5W Digital Signal Conditioning Filter he saw that filter and said me that is the reason i am getting poor signals and blala and he removed the filter form the cable i explained him i am only getting bad service since last two week. Before that i was getting spot on 20mb.

Then he also brought a new modem and fixed it for me. After he changed a new modem today he ran couple of tests and Said i am getting good SNR and power level.

Finally he tested my download speed and totally confused
he used speedtest.net and other vm site the result are completely strange and not true.

56mb/sec , 112mb/sec 14mb/sec 32mb/sec finally he was unable come to a conclusion. he said my download speed is not stable. he wanted me to use for couple of days and if i still have same probs he wanted me to call vm again.

i said him my contract was finished with vm last month, if its like that’s i won’t renew my contract, for that he suggested me to try the 50mb

My rapidshare download speed in day time 1.1MB- 1.3MB but whole night 350kB to 750kB

Here is my latest modem Status:

Cable Modem Downstream
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 5
Downstream Frequency : 331000000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : 6.4 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 41.4 dB

Cable Modem Upstream
Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 25800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 46.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

how about the SNR and power level its seems too much for me.good or bad?

Please give me some idea, can i go for 50MB upgrade or wait and solve this probs.

fingercrossed

Re: Engineer totally Confused.

Your levels are just about OK. The SNR & upstream power are very good. I'd prefer not to be > 6 dBmv downstream power - but the great guru Broadbandings doesn't agree with me so we'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Please conduct a speed test that onlyuses the VM network, i.e. using http://www.virginmedia.com/testmyspeed/manual.php. Please ensure when adding up the download speeds that you clearly quote MB/s or confirm that you've done the conversion to Mb/s when giving the aggregated figure.

The outside stuff needs tidying up. Then you might need the forward path attenuator again that the engineer removed! Keep it handy.
